Chicago just signed Marty Lapointe to a three year contract ($7.2). Good riddance- he never panned out for the Bruins.

I think the B's are in pretty good shape. It's too bad Marty never really panned out. I like him as a player, but he wasnt't producing.

It's funny, but can you really go by how good a player was a year and a 1/2 ago? think about it. This lock out could either bring guys back from the dead or, on the flip side, make a player worse?

What do you guys(and gals) think?

I liked Lapointe, but as a $2 million per year guy, not $5 per year. But, nobody forced the Bruins to offer him the contract. He laughed all the way to the bank.

Bruins are shaping up nicely- Murray, Leech, Isbister and McEachern on the checking line, Scatchard, and today they signed Zhamnov. Hopefully they'll round things out with Sammy and Thornton and make the team a real contender.

I'm praying Lapointe has you guys slapping your foreheads asking, "why did we let him go???" by the end of the season.

Chelios signs with the Red Wings!!

I liked Lapointe, good hitter, fighter & veteran leadership but he just wasn't producing & that contract was ridiculous!!

B's need to sign Thornton & Samsonov, gonna take 7-mil to sign Thornton after Iginla got 7 to stay in Calgary!!Hoping Zhamnov will be a good second line center!!

& I still can't believe Forsberg went to Philly!!

There's still hope that they will sign Domi.

                  [/ QUOTE ]

Man, that is just not right...I despise him. Especially since he always seems to have a good game every time we play the Leafs.

There's still a lot of free agents out there, but the Pens are letting the cream of the crop drift by quickly. Of course, Craig Patrick's not too shabby at pulling some things out of thin air sometimes too.

At least we picked up a pretty good fourth line goon in Andre Roy. I'm sure Tampa Bay will miss him, he's a pretty tough customer if he can stay away from officials.

I wonder if Crosby has been dangled as major trade bait yet???

                    Re: NHL free-agent floodgate

Thornton might be worth $7 in a few years, but he's not today. Don't get me wrong, he's an unbelievable player, but lacks discipline and leadership traits necessary to earn the top dollars. He hasn't led the team far in the playoffs (not past the first round, if I'm not mistaken), still takes silly penalties (hitting after the whistle, blatant retaliatory slashing, etc), and generally lacks captain skills.

Having said that, he's probably the most difficult person in the league to knock off the puck, especially behind the net or along the boards, and has great hands. He has the size and tools to be another Cam Neely, just lacks the disciplined mean streak and intense competitiveness. I was at Neely Night (when they retired Cam's number) and when the keynote speaker was telling everyone how Cam played for the spoked B on the front of his jersey, not the name on the back, and how he came to play every night- someone in the crowd yelled, "ARE YOU LISTENING TO THIS, JOE?!?!?". He nailed it.

If they sign Thornton this year, the B's should give co-Captaincy to he and Leech. Thornton could use some tips on leadership before he can be mentioned in the same breath, captain-wise, as Yzerman, Messier, Stevens, Bourque, etc.

Totally dude. He is not ready to be captain. The game just hasn't been the same since Cam retired. He needs to start coaching.

The Blackhawks netted arguably the biggest fish in the NHL's free agent pond Thursday, signing Stanley Cup winning goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin to a 4-year contract worth $27.

A four-time All-Star, Khabibulin was 28-19-7 with a 2.33 goals against average in 2003-04 and was 16-7 in the Lightning's Stanley Cup playoff run.

Nice grab on Khabibulin Tekky. That helps you guys out big-time.

If Lapointe was 1/2 the player the money Boston gave him Detorit wouldn't have let him go. Either his agent is brilliant or the Bruin managment are dumb fucks He's a 1.7 mil player

Some of the salaries given out here don't seem to add up. Teams are capped at 39 mil yet 4, 5, 6, 7 mil a year for a player isn't adding up. I expect several teams getting into cap issues and a hell of a lot of creative accounting going on.

Well, hopefully a fresh city will give Lapointe the kick in the ass that he needs to earn his money. The Chicago fans are rabid. Our own Eric Daze was continually called "Daisy" until a couple of years ago, and he's one of they guys they're trying to build the team around.
