      Joel:
As you probaly know already, you should have a good shot of protein within 1/2 hr or so post workout. On your off day I would just simply skip that post workout drink. That would be only 30-40 grams.

The 1 gram Protein per 1lbs is more bodybuilding oriented, but it won't turn to fat as far as i know. Just skip the post W/O drink as dave said

Stay away from sugars unless it is a natural source (fruits) It spikes your metabolism and your body will go into storing fat. Go for all fresh food sources you can improve the quality of your food. Keep the protein intake up. Do more cardio. Be advised though you still will get catabolic when you cut and will lose some muscle it is inevietable. You have to experiement of course and see what works best for you... 5% is a pretty tough goal man...

              Re: Health/Nutrition Questions..related to working

Any excess of calories will be stored as fat, that includes protein. Protein will only be stored as amino acids in the muscles if your body remains in a positive Nitrogen state. Weight training for your muscles requires extra protein compared to the needs of the average person.

Bottom line, burn more than you take in. If you ate nothing but a pound of fat per day, you would still lose weight if you were burning 3600 calories per day.

                  Re: Health/Nutrition Questions..related to working

Tayloring our intake to your daily calorie burn is a great way to lose weight slow and steady and still be fueled for hard workouts.

When I'm in weight loss mode ( as a cyclist )I try to keep my intake 500 calories a day less than my burn. So if I ride 85 miles on day I can eat more than a day I ride 35 miles. You can't starve your body and still expect it to respond to any intense long duration workouts.
