Re: Stupid guitar mistakes

Anybody here know who was in the band "Rocketboy" that opened for Stryper on the In God We Trust tour? I saw them in New Orleans and the lead guitarist had a POS of some sort - looked like a Charvel Model model that had been beat to death - duct tape all over it.
Every time he'd take a solo his guitar would cut out.
He got booed heavily and told to get a real guitar

The rhythm guitarist was a hamfist that broke at least one string per song. He had this huge Byrdland or Gretsch brown thing. Guy coulda saved a fortune in strings with a good bridge, nut, and tuners
I would not want to be his tech

Re: Stupid guitar mistakes

I was in a band a few years ago with a guitarist who was left handed. He played a pretty sweet Gibson SG, and I wanted to try playing it despite the fact that it was a lefty. I went to strap it on and I must have been a little to anxious as I hit myself in the face with the back of the guitar. I have learned from that experience that Gibson SG's hurt...

Try to do the Cinderella guitar toss with a Yamaha Pacifica....in a room with a low ceiling. I embedded the headstock into the ceiling. It ripped the strap free (no straplocks either), and left the guitar hanging from the ceiling.

It didn't stay in tune, either, goddamn Floyds.

Re: Stupid guitar mistakes

Actually, the first accident I had with a guitar was pretty unremarkable, but here goes anyway!

I was sitting down and had my then mint, metallic white model two in playing position, but I was on the phone. I then decided to wedge the phone between my right ear and sholder and doodle about on the guitar while I talked - of course, the inevitable happened and the phone slipped out and hit the top front edge of the guitar, taking a big chip out of the paint, down to the wood if I remember correctly one of those occasions where you just wish you could have those 3 seconds over again D'oh!!!!

Taking my DK2 out of the box when I first got it, as I lifted it, I lifted the headstock right into the ceiling fan. Doh!!!! No damage thank God.

I just did that with my cherry, perfect, pristine 1987 Model 2 about 2 months ago. I kept the thing in perfect condition for 18 fuggin years and this year while taking it off I lifted it up into my ceiling fan by accident. I was so pissed at myself. took a 1-2 mm gouge out of the headstock black finish right by the G string. I blacked it out with marker and you can't tell unless you're holding it and looking for it, but still... d'oh!

I "replaced" the JT-6 studs on my Jackson ltd ed '88 with Schaller studs using soft wood to plug the stud holes, and a free hand electric drill to drill new holes.

In my late teens, my parents were away one time, so I had a little party. I was drinking rum and coke, sitting on the couch playing my old Kramer... I puked on it! My friend who was sitting on the couch with me just laughed his ass off, and so did I.
