I auditioned Sunday for the lead guitar spot in a signed band. They are signed by Escape which is owned by Sony. They just played at a talent showcase at BB Kings where all the Viacom bigwigs were. Gilbert Godfreed introduced them and there were alot of famous people in the crowd. Anyhoo.. I got the spot. I brought my GT-6 and they were VERY impressed with the studio sound I was getting. Because of the showcase they have been entertaining many offers from other record and distribution companies. They recently severed their ties with Sony due to a conflict in interest. Sony wanted a more 80's metal sound and felt that their latest album is too "modern" sounding. There 1st release "Natural Destruction" was popular in Europe and continues to sell. They have been looking for a lead guitarist for a while now and nobody was able to fit the group. They were looking for shred but more importantly... feel. They also need some new writing blood in the band. I got their latest CD 90 minutes before the audition. I listened to it in the car on the way to NJ and fortunately I have a good ear because I was able to pull off 4 songs pretty darn good. These guys KILL. Total pro's. The songs are excellent. You can buy their CD's on their website. Their 1st release Natural Destruction is REALLY good. Anyway, I need to learn all their songs and be ready for a gig on August 27th. Now I am in 2 bands! Covers at home and originals in NJ. Here is a link to their website. I am replacing the guy with the shaved head. His name is Bill Dinapoli and IMHO, he is a monster player. I was told that he had family responsibilities and could no longer do the band thing. Here is a link to their website AFTERMATH

Re: A dose of GOOD LUCK!!!
John,
Did you get the gig?...or still in the "trial stage"?
Anyway....best of luck with them! They have a really cool groove going on..almost bordering on progressive. If they make their arrangements a little more complex, they will cross over into progressive. But keeping it simple is still always a good method! The songs stick with you, which is what matters most in the end.
Where in NJ are they from?

I got the gig but I think I will be in the trial stage for a while. I feel confident that I can cover the guitar duties no problem. The contribution to the writing will be the tell all. I already came up with some minor changes that they liked alot. I like the guitar tone to be more interesting rather then just displaying notes per second.
I am currently working on learning the songs and changing the tone on some of the guitar tracks. For instance: The guitar solo in Hemmorhage by Fuel. It isn't anything special but the modulation effect on it is excellent and makes it memorable. I feel the same way about many of the guitar solo's in Audioslave. They aren't shredfests and wouldn't be considered technical at all but the effects used and writing creativity makes them great. That is what I think this band needs. At least thats what my direction is at the moment. Like I said, these guys are VERY good players. Its cool just to jam with them. I don't recall the town in NJ but it was around 30 minutes tops from the GWB.

"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

BTW, did you use the 7-UP 275?

I brought the PRS CE24 and my Boss GT-6. Thats it.
I programmed the GT-6 when I got there.
I didn't mention the Billy Ocean "thing" nor any of my past studio work at Power Play Studio in Queens. I actually didn't mention much of anything. I have been wanting in on this band since 1995. Everytime I saw them live I was wanting to be in on it. Now I'll get the chance.
