Re: Everybody Go Get Tommy Lee\'s New Cd... NOW!!!

Anyone see Tommy hawking his reality show and CD on Conan O' Brian last night? I'm happy to report that he was in the persona of his former self circa golden Crue era. He even licked Eva Longoria from Desperate Housewives on the side of her face when explaining to Conan that he licks people on the face that he "likes". He's entertaining if you enjoy watching the "metal village idiot" when he's not slipping into wigger mode. I may even watch his upcoming reality show from time to time. Nothin' wrong with making money. Anyone remember the original post topic? Tommy Lee names a bunch of non-metal songs as his all time must haves on Apple "Celebrity Playlist". That is such bullshit. Why you ask? Because he is naming urban thug crap to get cross appeal "street cred" with the demographics buying the most music. Its not honest and all Crue fans know he's full of shit. This is the same guy that once said Accept was one of his favorite bands. No true influences were named. Get it yet?

Motley Crue would not sell the numbers like in 1983 no matter what classics were remarketed to the buying public. Their audience is grown up. Not pulling their pud to '80's pop culture icons. That style of music has been long out of favor with the buying masses in favor of urban and bubblegum pop. Haven't been happy about that for years. But people who were 17 back then hopefully have better fish to fry as an adult. Now kind people of the JCF, off to pull my massive pud and fry some fish!

Re: Everybody Go Get Tommy Lee\'s New Cd... NOW!!!

It is ok do not like his music, just like Tim said, it is a matter of taste but I was being sarcastic on the other issue, the money thing.

There is NOTHING wrong making a lot of money, and doing everything possible to get it more and more.
If some people judge him by that then something is really wrong. He is doing a great job, yes a job, people who get a lot of money are good wrokers. Making music is a job to pros. I dunno, maybe some police officers are sellouts too because they make a good job, maybe they should let the criminals too whatever they want if they don't want to me sellouts.

I bet most of you would make a lot of money if you would have the change, but you don't. Tommy did his rap thing because he liked it, he wasn't foreced to do that. Those who call money makers sellouts all the time are hypocritical, because they would make a lot of money if they would have a change, and if you say that "No, I would never do that" then you are a big liar, there is no point to lie and sepcially lie to yourself because you never had the change to make that big money. That reminds me what Bill has said many times "People who say that money dosn't make them happy never had any money" Fuckin' A.

I got Tim's point because he just doesn't like Tommy's music, I got Bill's point because he wouldn't make rap wich is the music he personally don't like, I got John's point because he admits that he would make all the money no matter what it takes, I also agree with some other guys here at some point but those who called him a big sellout...... I just don't get it

Re: Everybody Go Get Tommy Lee\'s New Cd... NOW!!!

Sarah Mc Lachlan?, Outcast?, Missy Elliott?, Jay Z?, Nas? And this doesn't piss anyone off who grew up with Crue IN THEIR PRIME? This is hard to overlook and excuse - no matter what rock / metal drummer from a well known band states this kind of nonsense. These are artists and songs that Tommy is claiming are all time greats - shit you'd take if you're stuck on a desert island. Absolutely no mention of HIS REAL influences like New York Dolls, Arthur Kane, Mott The Hoople, Slade, etc. Doesn't come across as genuine. And that makes it difficult to respect him - no matter what the appeal of his old shadow self was. What's next - Blotz from Ratt stating he digs urban rap and no mention of real influences / favorites? Yeah, I guess since everthing technically has a "beat", its all good. Since he's an established rock drummer - creative license should be naturally expanded for the growth of the "artist" notwithstanding their decline into their personal tribal ebonic poetry rhyming muttering exploration journey. T-Bone from the Girls, Girls, Girls era would never have done this. But some of you that were toddlers during this time don't get the point. Ask anyone over 35 and most will agree and see it for what it is - changing your flavor to appease a different marketplace. I don't see Bruce Dickinson rapping, etc. Metal and rock fans respect artists like that. To each assclown his own. Maybee he stuck it to Lil' Kim after that video shoot a few years ago and it permantently changed him into a superficial attention whore wigger.

All I'm saying is Tommy wants to be popular with the under 25 set because they buy the most music in the marketplace. Tommy is an early 40's fuck up who loves constant drama. Many of our old heros were. Some people looked up to baseball players, some looked up to rock stars. There are no more rock stars to look up to. And you shouldn't be when you're an adult unless you suffer from arrested development syndrome. He wants to relate to a younger audience to the extent that he will not mention rock / metal influences that will "date" him with the youth. I'm calling him on the carpet for it and many of you are totally blind to what I'm saying. He doesn't suck my dick or pay by bills, ya know. Its just fucked up what an attention whore he is. Not a rock star. There's really no such thing as a rock star anymore anyway. Fuck em'. This has gotten old.

You naturally like what you grow up on and identify with. I was 21 years old in '87. I got into Charvels in early 1983 when I was 17. Got skilled on the guitar to some extent emulating the classic shredders of the day. The music during this period and Charvels are a great match. VH, Ratt, Crue, Dokken, etc. But if you didn't get signed when metal was hot (was never my goal - just loved guitars and playing) or want to pursue music professionally (not my thing), then it becomes a hobby to those that like to remember that time.

Sure, I like other styles of music than '87 era Crue. Classical, jazz, some nicely crafted pop songs with a hard guitar driven edge.....just not the bullshit Tommy claims are great artists & songs. Shit sandwiches are selling, so Tommy is the biggest proponent of eating them.

I'm certainly not sitting around in a time capsule looking at all my Circus and Hit Parader pics plastered on the wall pining for the "good old days" - but thats what some of us do from time to time. Nothing wrong with that. But when you get maturity and responsibilities, your lifestyle in relation to music shifts unless you are a working musician getting well paid for it or have loads of time to devote to a hobby.

Guess your perspective would be based on what years you were 15 to 20 when metal was king. I loved the era. But I'm not going to sit around pull my pud at the JCF cookout and think I'm the shit or defend my views to those that didn't live the peak of that era.
