• My Bands mp3 check it out

Alright people this is my band, Questioned By Theory's mp3.

Its on this site under downloads.

Yeah the vocals and drums are too quiet and there are mistakes in the guitars but I dont care

We're attempting to be a modern thrash band with death metal influences and melodic riffing. Our songs have blastbeats, death growls but also the vocalist sings in a weird Tomas Lindberg, Anders Friden kinda way, but goes to a bit of Hetfield and then some black metal.

This song is very metalcore, but thats only because it was written before the new direction was decided and before I had joined (I wrote the mid section riffs under the solos, which our other guitarist plays wrong )

Mines is the first solo, and has mistakes in it - I hadnt played guitar in over 2 weeks when I recorded it.

We'll have a demo recorded in a month or so, but Im just after seeing what you guys think.

Our other songs arent like this at all, they have better more technical riffs and blastbeats and are dynamic and more thrashy.

Ive been told this song is like Trivium and Still Remains but I accept that.

Lets us know what you think!

I hope you don't mind a little constructive criticism. Don't worry about the levels, and don't worry so much about mistakes. However, I can not stress enough how important it is to be in tune. You can have all the complicated riffs in the world, but if you ignore the most elemental of things and don't bother to make sure you are in tune, no one will want to hear your music. It certainly sounds out of tune, sorry to say. I am very picky in that regards. At rehearsal, if someone is out of tune, I just stop playing, and wait for everyone to tune up properly. There is no excuse for being out of tune.

Re: My Bands mp3 check it out

I know the bits you mean. On the main riff when we go back to the open note on the 6th string I play it too hard bending it, and where the song stops and has the riff under the solos, well the other guitarist in the band cant remember that riff so he just makes it up lol.
Apart from that is it out of tune anywhere else?
Any other comments?
Thanks for this by the way mate

I wish someone else would give their 2 cents. I don't like being the one part pooper.

Actually it sounds like someone's guitar is a tad off on most of it. Do you have 2 guitarist or is it double tracked?

Ok Ill bite... fire the singer. Stat.

The vocals are way too loud, even if he was half decent, they would still be too loud. Not trying to be a dick here, but you guys seem to have some talent yet go and ruin it with a horrible singer... thats whats so wrong with so many new bands now a days. Get someone who can acually sing if you want to stand out!

Re: My Bands mp3 check it out

Our singer can actually sing, he sings later on in the track... We wanted a singer that could match the brutality of the music (obviously not that track). I listen to a lot of death metal and thrash and think that clean singers dont sound right over heavy music. Only really like power metal for the technical side of things and less chessy power bands like Iced Earth of Nevermore get on my nerves after a couple of tracks.

Also Rob, You could have just said that you didnt like the vocals... Thanks for the talent comment though. The scream at the beginning is too loud in the mix but it was recorded separately and to say its only a rough mix so we're not too unhappy with it.

We have two guitarists and we had tuning problems all the time (old strings, hot garage, two tuners reading two different notes lol).

We'll get the demo done soon, more of the same vocals im afraid Rob! But less of the melodies, and less pop-tastic.

I listened, I laughed, I cried, I was rocked.

Far be it for me to judge, because I suck....but you asked so...

OK. First off, I am not a fan of the vocal style going on here. I can't listen to bands with vocals like that for more than 5 minutes. When he actually sang, I liked it.

I liked the whole song as far as the music went. Mix and all aside.

You guys should all share the same tuner for now, so the whole band is tuned the same. It wasn't that far off, but it is noticeable.

I'll bet it will sound really good when it's in tune. Can't wait to hear it.

I second the idea of using the same tuner. Actually, when my band records, I tune both guitars and the bass myself, because I don't trust the other guys to tune properly.

Like I said man, wasnt trying to be an ass!

Its just a little upsetting, to me anyway, when I start listening to a song that totally rocks, then the singer comes in and totally ruins it. Like CoB for example, their music rocks but they could have a different style singer and sound so much better. But thats whats popular these days I guess, Ill have to get with the times and learn to like it(which I dont think can happen to an extent), or just not listen.

The singing I would like much more if he added some edge to it, and more importantly, lost the puking sounds.
The Wah Solo reminded me of old Hammett work.

I dug it. I'd hit it
