That crap band of his played a 30 minute set and twenty minutes was him ramblin' and mutherfuckin'....he gave me a a fucking headache..

Tim said it perfectly, but I'll just add that any performer or manager worth a damn knows that the paying fans have to be priority #1, and putting on the best show for them is more important than any petty bullshit. Another thing that may not have been brought up yet is the possibility that this could have very easily turned into a riot. People could have been hurt or even killed.

Have you been to Glen Helen in August? That crowd had 10 hours of 100 degree temps, sweat and beers in them. I doubt they had a riot in them at 9PM after a day of sweating every ounce of fluid out of their bodies and further dehydrating themselves with alcohol. Maybe the ones who were gakked on meth...

Anyway, it was a disservice to the fans, but there's enough blame to go around for that. Sharon & Co. did the deeds that night but Bruce talked shit throughout the whole tour.
Bruce picking on Ozzy is like a bodybuilder kicking over a guy in a wheelchair - he's picking on a guy who's defenseless.

This is also NOT the first tour where the headliner's camp has fucked with the support band's PA during shows. That has actually been fairly common in the history of rock and metal, and lots of bands can tell tales of the headliner jacking them up when they were openers or support.

A telling point is that, before this, Steve Harris was embarrassed enough about Bruce's shit talk on the tour that he not only made an official statement about it, but also went to Ozzy and apologized in private for Bruce's harangues about Ozzy throughout the tour. They are sticking together right now, but I bet Bruce is gonna catch some shit within the band for instigating the feud that led to this.

This statement came from Sharon, not Steve Harris. I have yet to see anything or anyone not from the Osbourne camp to verify this. Do you really think Steve Harris would apologize to Sharon after being pelted with eggs by her crew in front of 40,000 people?

Re-read my post: I said, BEFORE THIS, meaning before this Ozzfest incident, but during the tour, Steve made some comments on how Bruce gets pissed off and goes off. It wasn't phrased as an apology, exactly, more like explaining that Bruce's temper gets the best of him, and more or less saying Bruce doesn't really mean it, but gets mad and mouths off.

Also, after that statement but again BEFORE the egging, he's said to have privately gone to Ozzy and apologized because Bruce was insulting Ozzy for using a teleprompter, making derogatory remarks about Ozzy's reality show, and similar remarks about bands that go out and play the same 10 songs for years on end. Now those remarks were made by Bruce on this Ozzfest tour, onstage during Maiden's set just before Sabbath's set, on numerous nights of the tour. That, to me, is pretty provocative, even if it's just words.

As for links, I don't have direct links because I've read threads about this at Blabbermouth.net, and primarily at the Metal Sludge Gossip Boards at www.metalsludge.tv ; you go to the site and in the top left quadrant of the page is a link to the Gossip Board. On the main Gossip board there are 2 threads on the front page, one 11-page and one 8-page (right now). There are all sorts of links in those threads though Harris' statement was both linked and pasted on someone's post. I am frankly too lazy to go back and read all of those posts again just to link Harris' quote, but it's there.

So the point is just that Bruce didn't just say something that night, he's been agitating the whole tour.

Bruce didn't say shit about ozzy or black sabbath at the Auburn show. He talked some shit about MTV...but that was about it...the rest of the time he talked it was simply to rile the crowd..he was excellent.

If Ozzy was supposedly so upset Sharon had to pull this shit, he can handle it himself. Look, Ozzy is getting old and all that shit but he can still cuss a guy out. If he was really upset about Bruce mocking his lame show on MTV or poking at him for using a teleprompter then he sure as shit could have handled it himself. Sharon didn't need to put her bitchy ass in the middle of this. Bruce isn't blameless, he has pissed on American fans several times wether he meant to or not, he has a big flapping mouth and he should learn to keep it shut, but I think most of the big problems with this incident lie squarely on Sharon's head.

So? The only thing that bothers me about Bruce's comments is the fact that he made them on Ozzfest stage, which is really hypocritical to me. That doesn't take anything away from the truth of those statements though.

1. I'm glad the Ozzfests are ending. It started getting really lame over the couple of years. Just signing any joe shmoe band that comes along.

2. Get over it, MTV won't allow hard rock or metal videos air time at all. Most rock to metal bands will have to rely the record label showing them some love. Relying on record labels will be for many career suicide. Bruce needs to accept this and move on. It boils down to the fans buying the CD's and tickets to the shows. The fans will make you or break you. Don't make easy for the fans to break you by senseless babbling that could put your career in jepordy.

3. Bruce needs a reminder to keep his mouth shut at critical times. Especially when he knows Maiden is trying to revive their career/popularity in America. As well seeing an increasing interest for hard rock and metal growing in America, knowing Maiden can contribute to that, he needs to have a sense of appreciation to OZZ or Sharon, for the opportunity Ozzfest has given them to do so.

4. Sharon runs the business, get over it and get use to it.
She will always be in the fore front. Yes, like Bruce she is mouthy and speaks her mind, still, she herself and Bruce, knows better than to let this scenario unravel in front of +45,000 fans. Very poor judgement.

5. Ozzy's career will not suffer from this.
Ozzy is very good at what he does. He will find another top notch guitarist and eventually put out another good solo album. Ozzy has a very large and loyal fan base. He could fart into a mircophone and record it and his fans would love it.

sharon is pissed cos maiden is better than sabbath/ozzy ever was. they put on a better show and are a better band.
sabbath are hardly the headliners these days. they're just the band that closes the show so that everybody has time to pick up their shit and leave.

For me... what happens off the stage should stay off the stage... if a band says something negative about another band, big deal, deal with it off stage. This is metal.. anyone that has read interviews with various acts shouldn't be strangers to bad mouthing each other, not that it right or proper to do. The point being.. there should still be a certain professional courtesy towards a band when they are performing on stage. To purposely sabotage a band playing is petty and bullshit. You aren't only hurting the band, but you are hurting the fans that came to see them.

this is [img]/images/graemlins/bs.gif[/img] Just because you have more people listening to metal and therefore bigger crowds does not make you better metals fans. Its shit statements like that which got Bruce in trouble. I've been to small shows here in the US that were so loud you couldn't hear shit. It may not be 4000 people and I'm sure for some artists thats disconcerting but once they get there I doubt they have any complaints about the crowd response here in the states.

A good example of this is ProgPower, artists, European ones particularly love to play it because they get a big US crowd that are hardcore metal fans, not half assed numetal fans which can inhabit the Ozzfest crowd.
