Re: October Guitar World

I can't fucking believe, I'm hearing people say, these guys couldn't write, or do anything worth a damn. For fucks sake, The Pumpkins were one of the most successful bands of the 90's. Their sound was copied, their music covered.

It's true, they aren't the most talented musicians (Jimmy Chamberlin actually happens to be, a phenome-fuck-ing-nal drummer).

I can't fucking believe that you guys, are saying they couldn't write worth a damn. You may not like them, but song writing-wise, they are/were (even though Billy Corgan just said he has plans to reunite the Pumpkins) a great song writing band (well the main 2 song writers Jimmy, and Billy anyway...James would dissapear for days, and D'arcy was just crazy).

      Re: October Guitar World

Billy Corgan bugs the crap out of me and he must be one of the worst singers to come out of that era. I don't have an educated opinion on the songs because his voice hurt so bad I couldn't get to the songs.

Maybe the songs rule, but I'll never listen long enough to find out.

"I hear a huge Pretty Boy Floyd influence in Nevermore's music. How many strings does Loomis use? I only hear the similarities on the D string."

...yeah Jimmy...I think Nevermore blatantly ripped pretty boy floyd off...the look , the style , image...everything...you're absolutely right man...

you know what...come to think of it..Nevermore sounds Exactly like Smashing Pumpkins too...I think Billy Corgan is Jeff Loomis...just put a wig on him...yep that's him...

I heard that Kurt Cobain taught Loomis everything he knows...yeah...that's the ticket...

well the only reason why I said that Billy Corgan is GAY is because he sounds "gay"...well he does..he sounds gay...when I think of how a gay dude would sing...I think of Billy Corgan..and Boy George...they have the same soft spoken voice and range..and they are both pretty "femmy"..George michael too...same range..same gayness...IMO

Halford is gay..but he don't sing gay...

Corgan may not be gay...but he sings gay...and he is pretty femmy..I dunno...he could be gay...I would say yes...he's gay..

        and Zwan sounds "gay" too..

as far as soundgarden goes...the talent in that band is Chris cornel...now that fucker can SING...and NO...he doesn't sound "gay"..

you see...I'm a homophobe..and when I hear a dude that sounds gay...my penis inverts itself..in fear...and whenever I see or hear Billy Corgan...I have an inverted penis...it's my Gaydar...

call it a six sense if you will..

I just bought the new Nevermore, based on your opinion of it Bill. It should be here tomorrow and I will give you a review after it spins.

I think Alice In Chains were the best, as well. Layne was always my favorite vocalist from that period. The guy could do everything live that he did in the studio. Cornell was always a disappointment for me live. I saw Soundgarden four times and each one left me wishing I had not gone. The dude couldn't cut it. Matt Cameron was a mutha on drums though.

Nevermore sounds like a Pretty Boy Floyd ripoff? Dude, PLEASE pass that pipe you are smoking out of!

Billy Corgan was a great songwriter. He wrote a lot of songs that were great at making me throw up.

I will never understand the statement, "But he's a great writer of pop songs," because to me, it takes almost no talent to write a pop song. You just follow the same formula that professional songwriters came up with decades ago. Listening to a pop song that becomes a huge hit is like listening to fifty different songs, all in one. I can usually pick apart the pieces that were lifted from some dusty old pop standards tome, one lick at a time.

Writing songs that appeal to the lowest common denomenator (i.e. young teenage girls) is what pop music has always been all about. It doesn't take much to reach or impress these people. I'd argue that it is way harder to be a good metal songwriter, because winning over a metal fan is a much greater challenge. Most of us are a bunch of jaded, finicky bastards who are convinced we've seen it all, while blasting the classics almost constantly.

Jimmy B, you will not be disappointed. From what everyone was saying, I was expecting a kick your teeth down your throat metal record. What I got was a complex sonic experience with lots of changes and movements, filled with diversity and amazing levels of restraint at times. Everyone has that one CD that keeps getting rotated back into the CD player in their car, never making it back to the CD case or into the house. "The Godless Endevor" just replaced "Ashes of the Wake" by Lamb of God in my car.

Cool Jimmy...give it THREE listens before reviewing...let it soak in..

I too was disappointed in Cornel...that SNL appearance was terrible..but the dude can sing...as did Staley..excellent style...he sounded so not gay...

and Matt of Soundgarden did kick ass...just in that song Jesus Christ pose alone...do you hear what he's doing in that song...my singer pointed it out to me...I never payed much attention..but when I did..wow....also NOT gay..

Who else beside my ass...thinks that Billy Corgan has a "gay" voice...I mean realy realy Gay...C'mon don't be afraid..I'll take the blunt for being THE homophobe here...anyone...anyone...bueller...anyone??

just give me a couple of those..

                  +1's...

Gay isn't and adjective I use much, but I'll agree with you.
Whiny+Femmy+Corgan Lyrics = GAY! That's right, all caps and exclamation point are necessary to emphasize just how gay it really is.

I did like the guitar tone on Cherub Rock, but that was right about the time Corgan started taking himself way too seriously.
