Glad he went into some technique stuff because that first part sounded like Cats Screwing on a Garbage Can Lid.

Matt thats intentional I think, that last open chord riff section is the "chaotic" bridge to the next section with the heavy drumming. Sounds kinda fucked up by itself but works well in the actual song.

Listening to The Psalm of Lydia off the new album now... It is just pure genius... The whole acoustical break leading into the solo duel... I prefer Loomis but Smyth also obviously is one hell of an "evil mothafucka" too.

I have never heard that band or this player, but he's very good. I liked the first rythym progression, but his lead playing style isn't my cuppa tea. talented dude though.

to me loomis is becoming like an ultra-aggresive Jason Becker type player. check out the final track ont eh new album. The sweep picking portion near the end is very beckerish.

Don't let this clip trick you about his lead playing. In my opinion this is not his best lead/solo, plus all of his leads work actually a lot better in the song than they do alone. Plus most of this sounds like a mess slowed down.

It fits very nicely with the rhythm it's played over. Quite simple for Loomis but, effective.

Kinda like the string skiping arpeggio he does in "I, Voyager"...It's more about the melody than a wank fest. Even though that solo sounds simple, that string skipping is a bitch.

"to me loomis is becoming like an ultra-aggresive Jason Becker type player. check out the final track ont eh new album. The sweep picking portion near the end is very beckerish."

Another good example of using some very technical playing to make a cool melody. He uses those arpeggios as a riff and it sounds amazing. Good call Drip!

yeah I got TGE and I like most of it. some of it is just not as musical as I'd like, but there are some really killer songs and sections of songs. I wish Born had more of the excellent chorus riff and less of the banging, for example. but I like em and am checking out their other shit too. Dane is pretty fucking great! some badass melodies at times, and then other times, it's like, no that part shoulda been left on the cutting room floor. but hey....

cool band, glad I found out about them here!

Thank God man! I knew you would find some redeeming value about them once you gave them a fair chance. Nevermore is a great band, EVERY member of them!

Even if you don't like the vocals and lyrics(I enjoy them immensely) as a fan of good metal you should be able to get some satisfaction from the amazing grooves, kick-ass leads and solos, that tight rhythm section...

Exactly! I don't know what the hell was wrong with me, didn't give 'em enough of a chance, I guess.

I'm actually liking Warrel's singing now, it fits the music very well, and it's a lot more intricate than I was giving it credit for originally.

The RIFFAGE! It is just HUGE it jumps out from the speakers and engulfs the house!
