Re: Covers

Best:

1. Clapton's remake of his own Layla.
2. Kenny Wayne Shepard's "Oh Well". (w/Noah Hunt)
3. Chicago's "I'm a Man"

Worst:

1. Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss".......... Off key and sucks really bad!
2 Metallica's remake of "Turn The Page".
(They absolutely destroyed that song. Why not take a great song like this and add as much distorted shit as possible, then let Hetfield abort it with his vocals. )

Re: Covers

best:
VH - you really got me
metallica - blitzkrieg
nevermore - sound of silence
iced earth - number of the beast

worst:
besides the many that were already mentioned, i gotta add death - painkiller . in my very humble opinion they destroyed that song. the original is soooo cool and groovy, the cover is mechanical, sterile, and the singing sucks like always. but then again, i'm not a fan of that album in general...the production ruins it for me. the songs are also not fast enough...flesh and the power it holds is my favorite song on the live in LA record, but the studio version is crap. symbolic is so much better it's not even funny. /rant

edit: ah yeah, and hammerfall - rising force

Re: Covers

Best:

Hard Luck Woman - Garth Brooks (If you have ever P.Criss sing, I think anyone who can hum a tune could do better the original. Still a cool cover.)

Cover of the Rolling Stone - Poison

Tie your Mother Down - Lynch Mob

Worst:

Bringin on the Heartbreak - Maria Carey, Completey ruined this song.

Landslide - Dixie Chicks No Fleetwood Mac song should have country twang in it.

Drift Away - Uncle Cracker - A great 70s classic that should have been done by someone with some talent.

Re: Covers

Worst = Maria Carey butchering Bringin' on the Heartbreak, Dave Navarro being in the video just makes it that much worse.
Close second to worst = Celine Dion and You Shook Me All Night Long

Best = Megadeth - No More Mr. Nice Guy
Follow up = Lynch Mob - Tie Your Mother Down
Honorable mention = W.A.S.P. - The Real Me

Re: Covers

One of my favorite covers:
John Denver's "Take me Home, Country Roads" as done by Jason and the Scorchers.
I'll put up an MP3 if there is interest.

Re: Covers

I love Lisa Loeb's cover of 'Goodbye To Romance'
Living Colour's 'Back In Black' rocks.
Anything by Dread Zeppelin, but especially 'Freebird'
Dolly Parton's cover of 'Stairway To Heaven' is so mind-numbingly stomach-churningly horrific, that I can't help liking it, especially the banjo solo....
However, Zappa's version of same is as brilliant as you'd expect.
