We headed out of town Saturday night(Tampa Florida to stay with family). I just talked to my dad, he is with the levee (sp?) police my house only sustained minor damage. He wasn't as luck a tree hit the back of his house. I hope everyone on the gulf coast stayed safe!!!! Lots of damage in the Metairie, Kenner, and New Orleans area. They say we can't go back for at least a week.

Yeah, all of the reporting is comming out of LA, where they thought it would hit. But MS took a direct thrashing from it. I guess I should be happy for the people and property that made it through ok, and I am. But there are 50+ in MS and more that didn't, and I'm really worried about my brother and his family. The storm could not have hit his location any more direct. I know some other members have family there and even live in the area. I hope all turns out ok. Not trying to do the drama thing....just looking for any info that I can find. Thanks guys. And I'll post as soon as I hear from him.

I hope your people are ok Flametop, Miss. really got hit hard. Only just now are they starting to get footage from there and its really scary. Much worse than the bad footage from New Orleans even. But the damage seems to even then be varying widely, some areas being completed decimated and only a short distance away, neighboorhoods sustaining only moderate damage. So I'm hoping your family is in one of the areas that didn't get leveled.

The problems for New Orleans are just beginning. Apparently, a big levee failed early this morning and Lake Pontchartrain is now flooding the city.

Gitarguy, I'm glad you got out. Hopefully everyone else here on the JCF from that area is ok, too.

Thanks guys! Things are pretty tense here wondering if we will have anything to come home to. I have heard there is looting going on all over the city plus the water is rising instead of falling, but at least my family is safe. I wish all the best to my fellow JCF gulf costers and their families!!!

Thoughts and prayers are with all the victims, and citizens that were (and still are being) affected by this storm.

Another JCF'er is Germandeth who is in Bossier City, LA (not sure how far that is from NOLA)

Sandbag / plug the levee gaps & shoot all looters on sight.

Its going to be about a week before officials allow you to re-enter the state, but just for 24 hrs. Then they want you to go away for 1 month until they clean everything up and restore order.

Its very gutwrenching to watch. God bless all affected.

The looting thats going on makes me sick.

I see a lot of raw news footage at work and there is no control, store owners are armed and shooting looters.

Gee, look at all the other countries that are stepping up to the plate to help us. Not even a gesture from anyone regarding the devastation in the news. Fair-weathered to say the least.

It's lonely at the top, I suppose...
