Re: To the looters

[ QUOTE ]
I agree in principal Tim but I want to point out to you something you may have missed. Look at the footage of the looters and look at what they are looting. Almost every single one of them that I saw was taking diapers and food.

Alot of these people are trying to survive. And while some (like that fucktard carrying the TV) are just trying to take advantage of a horrible tragedy. Some of these people are trying to survive the only way they can think of. I don't think any of us can fathom the desperation these people are feeling right now.

why didn't they stock up before the storm hit? they were told it was coming sorry don't buy the "just trying to survive" theory

Re: To the looters

Wow.......things are starting to unravel quickly in New Orleans.

I don't agree with the looters of frivolous stuff (TV's, DVD's, hair products etc.), but as someone said, many have taken basic necessity items for themeselves and their children.

It's quite easy for us to point our fingers on the basis of morality and accuse them, but, their reality is far different than most of ours is.

They have little to no communication, the entire infrastructure is destroyed, there is little semblance of order or control. There is no established "backup" policy in place to assist law enforcement.....law enforcement has had to siphon gas from abandoned cars to keep their vehicles operational....and, they are human too....and have suffered the same as the other residents. The Military presence is not much different. They are people trying to exist in a situation that we can only dream of and their reality is a horrific and helpless situation.

The police and guardsman are in a difficult and very dangerous situation...they are in a situation where the "enemy" is panicked, stressed out, hungry, in physical/emotional pain and distress, and is quite frankly capeable of murder at the drop of the hat (and, they drop the hat).

Tim..you of all people should remember the images and feelings you had going through Iraq the first time with the Marines. The smell of death, the lawlessness, the unpredictability of the Iraqi's....not a whole lot different here.

Man is The Most Dangerous Game, as told from the Edgar Allan Poe short-story.

Many of these people have lost everything including loved ones...their mental state isn't the best right now.....not good.

+1. And the camera man shooting the video should be prosecuted as an accomplice. (think last episode of Seinfeld)

Think a little bit. Its likely alot of these people did stock up and promptly lost everything, including their house. Even for those that didn't getting to their homes isn't easy or safe with the water being so contaminated with raw sewage.

People stealing clothes (and I'm talking walmart type stuff not designer shit), food, water, diapers are fine in my book. They are by and large taking what they need and after all they have been through and will be going through I say have at it.

However those stealing tvs, jewelry and shit like that can rot in darkest pit of hell.

Ok..I'm sorry, I just scanned through the replies as I don't have time and don't really care to read some. Just my 0.02..If you can't join with your fellow man and work together (as well as maintain some sort of civility)in a time of crisis, you're just a big piece of shit. No matter what your background or income bracket.

oh boohoo, someone stole my bike! I better shoot somebody.

Given the circumstances I personally wouldn't give a shit if somebody was stealing all my shit...at least I'd be alive.

I watched a clip today from msnbc where they interviewed looters on camera. WTF! They even filmed a cop that wouldn’t talk to them helping themselves to merchandise.

This is just a dream right?

OK....another injection here.

What would YOU do if you were in this situation?? Perhaps you've lost your wife/husband to the storm, possibly a child, your home, vehicle....everything that you've collected in this life....gone.

But, you still have a child with you, who's hungry, thirsty, or a husband and wife team trying to figure out what to do??

You can't go to the local supermarket and buy groceries. There are none.

So, in the spirit of ethics and legality, you're going to slowly starve to death and dehydrate because stealing is "wrong"......BULLSHIT!!

Another point...I read a lot of "I'd kill that fuck" or "they deserve to die" kinda comments....who are you to decide who lives and dies?? Are you willing to go to prison the rest of your life cause somebody stole a Twinkie from your mom/pop store?? Even a large item? A jury would convict you of manslaughter in a heartbeat.

Also, with the exception of a few people on this board I'm assuming, how many of you have so flippantly aimed a firearm at another human and pulled the trigger and taken a humans life?? I'm not thinking too many. I have...and it's not nice, I still deal with it.

I'm not condoning what's happening in the affected areas, but these people are trying to survive in condtions we can't imagine, under conditions that we can't comprehend. Have some compassion for your fellow man who are just trying to get through these days with some semblance of sanity left.
