Rant: Why do people waste other peoples time??

Are they just rude? Or stupid? Both?
The bass player in our band, he's an O.K. guitar player learning to play bass. Last week he asked me if he could come by and work on a couple of songs that he's having some trouble with. He was supposed to come over last Sunday (that's the only day I have off of work). So last Sunday he's supposed to be here at 3:00 pm. He calls at 3:30 to tell me he can't make it. So I was kinda pissed but hey stuff happens...
So yesterday at practice he says I really need to get with you and work on these 2 songs, can I come by tomorrow? I said sure, what time..he says around 4..
Well it's now 5 minutes after 6:00 and he's not here. Hasn't called, so I called him, he doesn't answer his cell. This is 2 weeks in a row he has wasted my afternoon.
Does this happen to anyone else??

Me back in the day would have said F-Him, but if hes a true musician he will learn what he needs to,
because all true musicians would not want to be embarresed (eck) spelling? lol

Yes. Pretty much everyone wastes my time. BUT, I am keeping a log and one day I am going to pull a "Mr. Hand" on their Spicoli asses. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Yeah, that's really frustrating Jeri. Unfortunately you can't make anyone be responsible. That would be awesome if you could! He will have to either come through on his own or fall flat on his face. If he does the latter, you can point and laugh. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
If I were in your shoes, from now on I would be a real hardass about meeting up to go over songs outside of band practice. If he wants to make it in the band he'll have to step up to the plate. But, that's just my opinion.
I have very little tolerance for people not willing to make any effort.

I was supposed to jam and do recording with my drummer friend a few days ago. Drove 13 miles to his house at the specified time, he was sitting there with half a dozen friends drinking and playing cards. He was too busy talking to help set up the recording gear and do level adjustments. By the time they all cleared out we had like half an hour to play.

I know it would be better in person, but this is somebody is either avoiding the issue, to busy, or is distracted. At least you guys rehearse..some bands do not..you learn the songs, you go up and perform them cold and unrehearsed. Many pro musicians learn an album full of material for session work in a day if not hours. Or a songlist of 40-50 tunes in a couple days as a jobber..sure there are bar std's, but there's also some pretty intricate stuff that needs to be worked out if you are working with other musicians for harmonies and such.

In such instances, when someone can't meet up with me...you need to address it in another way. If it's possible, just go over the parts on the phone with an acoustic if they can't make it over on time... I've done it. Just have them take notes of basic things they'll need to remember.

You could also do the work for them..lay down their part and send them a file via media or email.

people waste time because they have nothing better to do, hence i've had several warnings for punching office furniture. people waste my time every day. its human nature.

That's one reason why Mark and I have been through so many bassists and drummers in Article 13. I won't deal with a flake. I just will not allow somebody to waste my time. Screw up once, no biggie. Do it again, find someone else's time to waste.

Responsibility.Some people can handle it,some people choose not too,some learn it the hard way.Sounds like he needs a dose of reality.Ask him if he really wants to learn the songs and if he gives you some bullshit answer,tell him you will find someone who will........................

90% of so called "muscians" are flakes and bust outs...especially drummers for some reason..and singers!!!
