    Re: OWNED (Katrina related)

I can't really speak for the difficulty of some persons job firsthand.. the people left to fend for themselves with no food or water or medical supplies had no ‘job’ where they collect OT to be accountable for..you still saw a majority of these people trying to help one another or just keep to themselves.

Not saying the people in politics or in uniform do not care, just some care a little to late or were/are seemingly indifferent. Why can't the chicken cross the road? because he doesn't have a badge and a gun? or a news badge? So much for free country. Just sit tight, do what your told, wait, suffer and die.

If I sit around on my job, nothing gets done. If I delegate to people who can't get it done, I'm still not doing the job in the correct fashion to get tasks completed. If I do not supervise and followup to make sure those who I put to task are doing their job, I’m not focused on my duties…if I don’t catch it in time…I sure will take heat for it, I wasn’t doing what it took to correct the problem at the time.

The people left to die had no job, they were just doing what they were told was a resort of safety (and waiting for the next stage of instruction or help). So when did the Hurricane pass? What day did any politician first do a fly-in? When was relief finally mobilized past small efforts finally given?

I didn't see anybody overturning cars or setting city blocks on fire.

        [/ QUOTE ]

It's pretty hard to overturn cars that are under several feet of water, and I would imagine it would be equally as hard to set a wet city block on fire as well.

        [ QUOTE ]
There was no real disorder tho..this wasn't like a G8 convention or the Rodney King riots.
All they needed to keep real order was food, water and medical supplies.

        [/ QUOTE ]

And Tv's ,dvd players, sneakers and the like?

        [ QUOTE ]
The friggin media looked pretty safe in the disorder you proclaim.

        [/ QUOTE ]

That's the real problem, the media WAS in the safe areas....too much TV watching and not enough common sense or listening to the reports of the people that WERE there.Several reporters reported having guns drawn on them etc....you think they can just magically roam through a chaotic flooded ,completely blacked out city and film all the crime?

I've read enough reports from people that were there, scared shitless due to all the gunfire etc, private ambulance companies who went out to help in their own boats who had them turned over by these thugs, but no... it couldn't have possibly been that bad since it didn't get shown on our TV's.

Do I think that the government was slow handling this matter..was it intentional..maybe....

like John said ..it was one way to rid the undesirables on prime location real estate..

          [/ QUOTE ]

When I saw it happening, I was struck by the thought that I was witnessing a mass extinction, an ethnic cleansing.

I would not be surprised ONE IOTA, if the underlying theme here was the opportunistic cleansing of New Orleans. I am not going to dance around this issue. Most of us constantly complained that New Orleans was such a fabulous place, and that it could be so much better if we could just "clean it up" (and I am cleaning that up for your sake). Well, I think there were alot of people thinking along those very same lines. I think the poor citizens of New Orleans may be as extinct as dinosaurs now. How many do you really think will return to New Orleans? WHAT will they return to? When that city is finally emptied completely, areas such as the 9th ward will be bulldozed. Insurance money collected by the landowners, and the land sold to developers who will build condos, or nice housing on the the land. Hell, I wish I had the money to invest in property right now....

No, I think there was alot going on here behind the scenses and I would not doubt that it had a sinister component.

            yep..Mike I agree..

            that's my hunch..

but some of those people shot themselve's in the dick..

behaving the way they did..compounded the problem and created a logical "excuse" not to go in and "help".

who wants to go into the lions den...especially when there's too many hungry lions..you..??

Not all areas were underwater. I did see clips where areas that had not taken on water had plenty of people in groups watching media, military or law enforcement drive thru the streets. The most unruly I saw them being at the time was chanting loudly that they want help.

If people wanted to stop police or the military, they likely wanted answers or help, wouldn't you? Either that or I'd be holed up with a ton of supplies. I know I'd want to ask them. I know if I was there, I be going "when are we going to get out of here?" "is help arriving?" I may have not left for a number of reasons IF I chose to stay (I wouldn't of personally) Isn't that which is outside the media... what their purpose in part is for? Yes, it would be difficult. Everything now is a matter of prioritizing what is an emergency reponse situation, what is a life n death situation. Keeping it from exploding into a riot. Well, the entire area is effected is an emergency reponse situation and a life n death situation.
You had varying degrees of devestation within the devastation depending on a number of factors.

I wasn't exactly glued to the TV as I worked 12-14 hour shifts when all this was going down either. When the hurricane was hitting full effect, I was in bed till I got up and went to work again. Just another normal day for me save for gas prices...doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off.
Is the medias portrayal fair? unbiased? Sure the media can be scathing..I think stories have been portrayed on both sides fairly. People want answers, they usually do when shit doesn't seem right.

As far as people stealing TV's, radios.
If I wanted to know what was going on outside of my little world and had nothing to connect me to the outside for days...I'd consider taking a radio & batteries if I had not already brought one with...no problem.

I'd likely pay em back for it too when I was on my feet again.

However, had I had lived in an area of threat, I can say for myself personally would have gotten as much in my car as possible, supplies and all.. boarded up the place and headed north a few hundred miles.

There have been plenty of fires in New Orleans. In dry and flooded areas. They burned down the damn Oakwood Mall. Burned down a fucking mall.

I'm out of this rant session..I can be doing things I actually enjoy instead of raising my blood pressure over events/things 2000 miles away that I have little control over.

It seemingly serves no other purpose than to piss someone else off..so I'll leave it alone. (it's just my opinion...02 if that..last I heard we can still voice a disgruntled opinion)

I'm not there so I'll leave it to someone who is to tell it. Sorry if my streak of political left which only peeks out on occasion in thought showed its ugly head.
