Geez Louise; if our resident Satanist and can accept this, why the hell can't the rest of the whiners in this country?

well you can only win over people with rational sense and logic..and this county is comprised of many cultures and personal beliefs..and mostly christian based..

I like to personaly change it to "One Nation under Satan"..that would be MY own personal wet dream..

but not fair nor right to the majority of Americans.

and good question..why can't a Satanist with anti christian morals and beliefs accept this and not any other so called oppositions...

Get me on O'Reilly and then maybe then I could put a big SQUASH on this matter..

on second thought that might not be a good idea..If I spoke my beliefs on national TV..I would get death threats from those I'm trying to help on this matter..and that's the truth..yeeesh.

Re: Pledge of Allegiance - this pisses me off...

I have to say that I as a kid growing up I never liked saying "... under God..." in the Pledge because I don't believe in that. It was never something I was comfortable with so I just omitted the words myself when we said it.

I have often wondered why, if there is a "separation of church and state", there are so many religious references on so many State-related things (money, the Pledge, etc.). I think one is being hypocritical in saying that these references have nothing to do with that supposed separation.

Personally, I don't care what anyone's beliefs are as long as they don't try to force me to believe them too, or try to get me to live by their so-called moral values. I believe that religion is fine, but it is personal and meant for you and only you (and your family). It is not meant to be the backbone of a society that claims to accept all faiths and non-faiths equally.

And I have to agree that this seems like a big waste of "taxpayer dollars", however, if our government had kept a true separation of church and state this kind of thing wouldn't even be an issue.

Bi-lingualism in our schools + government is a SHAM! Not serving peanuts on an airline is a SHAM!

I could care less if "under God" is in our POA. I will happily and proudly say it. What I will say, however, is that the debate over it is a SHAM! Whether that phrase exists in the POA will not change the human garbage in the U.S. one iota. It's simply a divisive issue and as such it serves as political tool, no more, no less. The players, including the atheist dude, are simply self serving. Just my opinion.

[/ QUOTE ] I make me behave. Ok, a few slip-ups. But, you are right. What creed or religion or whatever you believe is all it takes to treat your fellow man, and/or woman, with the respect you would want them to treat you. If people need a motto to remind them, what's the harm? This isn't a natioanl religion issue, it's just a reminder.

what is this "under god" thing about when you have to say it as a kid?
would be interesting for me...

there's always someone who feels offended by anything...
personly I don't care much about religion (eventhough I do believe in my own way) and I think it's weird to have god on bills and coins. why should god want to appear on money?
guess there's nothing in this world causing more harm and suffer than money...
I doubt god would want money at all. there was no cash in paradise.

but I really can't understand how people can do this much BSing about something like that. even if they don't believe in god, it has got to be ok for them to let the others express their faith. good thing about religion is, it keeps people together and makes them feel less shitty about this world. should be alright to let people go, without taken their believe from them. I'd not care.

back in the days I went to primary school, we had to pray before lessons, and there was Jesus hanging on the wall.
both is past nowadays. some folks didn't like that. praying was no more part of the morning ritual and jesus had to be removed from the classrooms walls.
I remember there were three moslem girls in my class, and one hinduist boy (not sure bout that), and I never thought they'd care about it.
they watched it interested and we proceeded as a class right after prayer. things were that easy...

I really wonder if there's so many people out there who feel too happy in this world, that they have to make their own problems. it's not like there weren't enough...

some extreme fans here btw? somehow this remind me of pornograffittis "money - in god we trust"

Interesting points from a non-US citizen. Thanks, Micha. I enjoyed reading your post.

This, however, was my favorite part:

I hear what you are saying, but this goes back to Sully's point where this country was founded, among other things, on freedom of religion. And in order to preserve complete and ultimate freedom of religion, we seem to be on a quest to totally eradicate it from society. Or, at least ensure that it is invisible to those who do not practice it.

There's a sad irony in that.

But, like I said, the bigger point here is having to change life for the majority to appease a very small minority; be it religion, or in-flight snacks.

[ QUOTE ]
Here's the story:

Pledge of Allegiance under siege

Don't turn this thread into a discussion about God, or religion vs. state. What really pisses me off is that some asshat like the athiest in this story is consuming millions of tax dollars because he doesn't agree with two words in one of our country's most traditional verses. You don't want your kids to have to say "under God"? F**k you - home school them, you nutsack.

This country is falling to pieces. Everyone has to bend over backwards to make sure no one gets offended. I can't eat peanuts on a flight because one of the other 400 people on the plane happens to be allergic. Too bad - pack your own snacks!

You can't read the ATM machine, so it has to be in 22 languages? Learn English!

You're a girl and you want to join the boy scouts? Grow a dick!

Where in our constitution does it say "You have the right to never be offended, and to never be inconvenienced"?

Hey - I am not racist, and I don't want some kid to die on my flight. But if I am in India, who am I to get upset if there is a picture of Ganesh in a public building? If I am alergic to MSG, am I supposed to get all Asian restaurants in Minneapolis to stop using it?

Dammit to hell. Doesn't this grind anyone elses gears?

- One nation, under God.
- Would you like some peanuts?
- "Enter your PIN".
- Go sell some cookies.

I could add to it, but I don't need a witchhunt.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...
