• Spyware............. WTF!!!!!!!!!

Why is this shit legal? I mean, c'mon, isn't this shit the equivalent of someone tapping your phone? I don't give a rat's ass how innocent some of it may be, we all know that there's spyware out there who's sole purpose is to collect personal data such as account numbers and passwords.

I propose that we all contact our Congressmen and demand that the feds do something about this shit once and for all. Here in NC, I signed up for the "no call" list cuz I was sick of getting 3-4 calls a night from telemarketers. It took about a month to go into effect, but damn if it doesn't work. Haven't had a call in months. The same thing should be applied to company websites/programs who invade my privacy and spy on me. Better yet, just make it illegal for these fuckers to covertly upload something on my computer without my consent and kick their asses with hefty fines if they're found in violation.

Thank you for your time. I'm off now to eliminate those 50+ files found during my latest scan.

Re: Spyware............. WTF!!!!!!!!!

Spyware is legal because you agreed to it. You installed something at sometime and agreed to some license thing (that you probably didn't read) and that's how you got it.

If they transmit personal data that you did not agree to then it is illegal.

What pisses me off is the "remove my name" links....
The ones that are attached to the junk mail that just about everyone you deal with feeds you(via selling your name). Use one, and you can expect to be showered with lots more junk. The only way to even keep a handle on this is to use a "public" address for your on-line dealings with certain people i.e. a @yahoo or hot mail address. As for Adware and Spyware, they will stuff it in your pc any way they can. You just have to keep your anti-wares up to date and use them. I don't see a governing body that will ever able to limit or control it.

Wouldn't you just like to be sitting in a bar one night when you hear some geek get drunk and brag about how he writes spyware and adware programs for a living?

Follow him out the backdoor, give him a beat down, use a Louisville slugger to take away his man hood, leave him laying there looking like a prison popcicle and then snuff his parents for breeding that piece of shit.-Lou

get Norton Anti Virus

and

Webroot Spy Sweeper

that combo is like a fortress against this shit. I haven't had any viruses or spywear since I got these on our LAN system at home. they are worth the money.

McAfee, Spybot S&D, and a little AVG thrown in for good measure has kept me clean for a few years. Along with modem, router, and pc fire walls. You just got to pick what works for you best and keep it updated and use it.

SpyBotS&D for the Spyware and Norton for the Virii and Worms.

I do agree that the creation of such items as worms and virii and spyware/adware/tracking stuff should be elevated to terrorism, and the punishment should be death with no possibility of appeals, and it should not recognize age limits, so that even 12 year olds get the full sentence.

Maybe then one day the word will get around to not do it at all, even "for educational purposes"

Or just be smart and know what your downloading.

I dont run an antivirus, just Ad-aware once a week.....

I cant stand having Norton and those other programs hogging RAM or CPU power when im working on recordings or any 3d stuff.

I havent honestly had any problems in a LONG time. Then again, im the only user of this computer, and i've been involved with them a long time, so I know who and what to avoid.

Oh yeah, and watch your computer's performance drop to a crawl. Sorry for being a smartass, but the only Antivirus I've tried that was worse than Norton, was Panda. I will push for NOD32; You never notice that it's there until it catches something.

Gemini: Sitting without anti-virus on a windows machine in this day and age is close to suicidal. You can be how careful you want. Remember Nimda? You can get virii by just having your computer online, doing nothing. If you use your computer for a living (or have other stuff you don't want to lose on it), get anti-virus and firewall NOW!

[/ QUOTE ]

And if you were running SpybotS&D you'd notice that a lot of common everyday "safe" websites are loaded with Ad/SpyWare - Ebay, MSN, Google, Yahoo, etc etc etc. At least 8 out of 10 pages I view on Ebay I get Spybot telling me that some AdSpyware is trying to download, and asks if I want to block it.
Thene there's the perfectly-ligitimate site I go to for video game cheat codes, and 99% of the time, a page will not load if I block the "Avenue A" download their sponsor is loading up.

See, it USED TO BE that you went to a warez site or porn site and you got tagged with some idiot's virus or key logger, but it's not just some geek cooking virii and key loggers that is the problem, it's the online advertisers thinking it's perfectly ok to load trackers and such into anyone's computer without explicitly asking first, and in some cases, denying access to the site unless you accept their Spyware.

This all sprung from Cookies, which I said years ago would result in tracking and spying, and gee whiz, I guess I was right.
But still, everyone and their mother swore up and down that cookies were good and it would allow better security for websites and allow this and that goodness, but no one ever details exactly what's in their cookies.

If anyone wanted to pester Congress about something, hit them up for a "Product Label" for websites that use cookies. Food companies have to put contents and such on their packages, websites should as well.

And yes, that includes the JCF since it uses cookies. I wanna know exactly what these cookies do. I've looked at the JCF cookie and it's got code lines. What do these code lines represent, specifically?

Re: Spyware............. WTF!!!!!!!!!

I use AdAware Pro, Spybot Search And Destroy and Microsoft's Giant AntiSpyware.

Between the three of them they usually get most of it. I've also got the registered version of Norman running, which auto-downloads updates as soon as they are uploaded (which is every friggin' 3 minutes ).

Add to that my firewall, surfing via proxy (partially to fuck the Mugu's over) and being cpu-savvy enough, I don't get too many problems with this crap.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

Re: Spyware............. WTF!!!!!!!!!

Syware has made me a lot of money in compter repairs. People just love letting thier kids have free access to anything and next thing you know they have 4 toolbars running, have clicked on the wrong box of probably 10 nastly pop-ups and end up with Cash-Back by bargain buddy running or something equally as nasty. If they are lucky they bring in thier PC complaining that it's getting too slow before it's too late. Most times they put it off and it just get's slower and slower and loaded to the max with Spyware. Running Adware & Spybot prove fruitless and they pay me $60 a pop $25 extra if I have to stick another drive in there to save all thier pictures from Tommy's first bithday. Awwwww....
