Awesome, they're even better live!! Fantastic talent.

Sadly we have very few "metal" acts coming through New Zealand so I have to fly over to Australia to see anything decent. Seriously the last metal band (well apart from Metallica ) we had was Pantera during the Southern Trendkill tour

Re: The best show you\'ve been to

best show I ever saw was Rough Cutt and Dio on the sacred heart tour.Viv was still in the band, and the stage show(man I miss the good old days)was awesome.I was instantly hooked on Rough Cutt and it took forever to find their album.

And,oddly enough,I too have seen Neil Diamond, and was blown away. Also saw Wayne Newton and he was fantastic as well.Newton's guitarist actually did a solo and played parts of Eruption on a huge Gibson hollowbody(don't recall the specific model).Poke me with sticks if you want to,but I went with my Grandmother, and they are some of my fondest memories of her.

And if any of you have not had a chance to,I saw TSO and that show was SWEEEET,freakin laser beams and all..

US Festival '83. Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions, Van Halen

I've been to a LOT of great shows, but that strikes me as most memorable ever.

The best show I've ever been to?? Hmmm, well, it was back in January, at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, CA. Nuno Bettecourt's band, Population One. After Pop1 left the stage, Yngwie came out for a short set, with Jordan Rudess on keyboards. Then Nuno came back out and did several songs with different guests throughout the night. Among them are Perry Farrell, Warren DeMartini, George Lynch, Michael Anthony, TM Stevens, Will Calhoun, Gary Cherone, Jon Anderson, and Neil Zaza. The best song of the night just had to be "Get the Funk Out" with Bettencourt, Cherone, Stevens, and Calhoun. Though the handful of VH songs that Lynch, Bettencourt, Anthony, and Cherone did was pretty mind-blowing too.

ZZ Top on a local rock festival (wich was HUGE) when I was 10 years old. They played a long set. Frank the drummer was VERY drunk, he couldn't even walk but he played amazingly well and keept the time perfectly. Since that day I became a rocker.

Also Whitesnake last year was badass, so was John Scofield 2 years ago at our big jazz festival.

It's kinda hard to pick but if I had to pick one it would be Jeff Beck on the There and Back Tour. I had to run away from home to see it! Very close runners up would have to be the Dregs on the Unsung Heroes tour and King Crimson on the Discipline tour. LOts of other great ones too but these were all small venues as well. Oh yeah, Coroner was pretty cool too, partly cause we got to open for em at the Troubador.

That was my first concert...Priest opening up for Kiss's dynasty tour. I immediately became a Priest fan that night and have been since. I thought Priest, blew Kiss away.
I feel ashamned I should've remembered that show.
Priest was in stellar performance that night. The next day I went out and bought several of Priest's albums.

Wow so many great responses, the first metal show I went to was Metallica when I was in high school. I've seen Maiden once (on their most recent go around with Dio and Motorhead) and Dream Theater, Iced Earth, TSO (freakin laser beams) G3 (Yngwie and Petrucci variants).

Its amazing to see some of the legendary shows you guys have been to. I've noticed I tend to favor the small shows more. They seem louder and more intimate. When Maiden played at Merriweather it was loud but it didn't seem near as loud as Therion last night. Plus you just get that cool feeling of being right in the middle of the experience and if your standing against a wall near the stage as I was, your entire body vibrates from sound.

Bill- Heh sorry to do this but you really missed out! If you have a chance to get tickets to any of their remaining shows in your area, DO IT! You won't regret it. I've got my tickets for Opeth and Nevermore already
