Can anyone tell me where the best place is to copywrite my bands demo that we just finished up recording. We want to get the songs out there, but obviously copywriting is the safest way. Are there any good online services, or should i go to an office? I live in the chicago area if anyone can help me out there.

Re: Copywriting music
No, no, no, no, no, no, no! The "send it to yourself" idea accomplishes absolutely NOTHING for those of us in the USA. This is a myth, nothing more. Hiding in a file somewhere around here I have cases from federal courts where the judges look at these sealed and postmarked envelopes and say, "Ummm, no."
The sentence right before the one discussing the time frame for delivery of your official certificat says, "Your registration becomes effective on the day that the Copyright Office receives your application, payment, and copy(ies) in acceptable form." That's your answer: if you don't fuck up, and if you send the required copies of your work, your registration is good the day the Copyright Office receives it.
If anyone has questions about copyrighting works or the process itself do yourself a favor and ask the Copyright Office. Unlike the overwhelming majority of our government that is an extremely well-run bit and they're very helpful to boot. Normally you won't have a huge problem getting someone on the phone who'll walk you through the process and answer all of your questions. Nice folks.Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam!
