• Weather Channel reporting...

'Dave' (a newbie) was just giving a live report from the streets in Key Largo. He interrupted his own report like this: "Wait! Wait! That piece of metal strip is about to come off the side of that building". Then the cameraman pans over across his shoulder to show a small aluminum strip about 24" long and 12" wide flapping in the wind. Then he began to discuss how dangerous that piece of metal would become if the wind rips it off. WOW! Although I don't think Weather Channel roots for death and destruction, I think they enjoy big storms as a way to pull in viewers. But I do agree that they get very maudlin, especially Jim Cantore on "Storm Stories". I also don't get why the Weather Channel think it's sensible to have a reporter standing outside in the middle of a hurricane telling everyone else to stay inside because "it's not safe to be outside".

Oh well, at least some of the female on-air personalities are nice to look at.

Yeah the Storm Stories gets to be overly melodramatic sometimes - like they're trying too hard to elicit "awwwww"

And I agree it does seem pretty wierd to stand outside in a hurricane telling people there's a hurricane outside - I keep expecting a billboard to wipe the guy out on-camera

But what's worse is the regular news channels like CNN giving live reports from noisy indoor places like the SuperDome or the AstroDome - thousands of people in an enclosed space talking/yelling, and the reporter is calmly delivering a report. I'm like "uhh, step outside to do that, really, cuz I can't hear half of what you're saying"
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

They are doing their job. Those stations survive on ad money, and the more people watch, the better the SKU, the higher the rates...It has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with News or Weather. Same goes for radio, which was my biz for quite a few years.

So as stupid as they look and sound, keep that in mind.

Ratings are king. No matter how sensationalized or stupid. News programs have become contrived reality shows. Kill your TV.

I wonder if a reporter did get blown away, would the rest of them stand outside?

Great advice! Maybe if we kill their ratings by tuning them out they'll start focusing on the facts, not the dramatization. I personally have given up on most any news on the TV. I check the National Weather service website for the local forcast, and scan through the headlines sometimes on a newspaper website. That's all the news I need.
