• Battlestar Galactica...anyone else tuned to this?

Man, this show is better than Law and Order for drama!

I've watched it from the start, and I have yet to miss an episode. I was so gassed for it when Sci Fi said they would be doing it. It has far exceeded my expectations. From what they have done with the characters, to rewriting the script it's just top shelf to me.

Anyone else feel this way? Anyone think it's a bastardization of the original version? I loved the original version when I was a kid. In my honest opinion they could not have done this new version, or cast it any better than they have. It fuggin' rocks! Needless to say I'll be buying the first season on DVD.

I think it's a fantastic series. The writing and acting is top notch (which can't really be said of the original imo) and the FX are great too. I also loved the original as a kid, but there was a huge cheese factor, which thankfully is gone now.

Just got done watching the season finale. Great series, great acting. I was excited when I 1st heard about the mini series a while back. To be honest though i was kind of turned off for the 1st few shows, but then once I got used to way it was, one of my favorite shows. I too was a fan of the original when I was young, but when I catch them on tv now, I find it hard to watch em, a little to cheesey for me now.

Ya, I've followed since day 1. Actually downloaded HDTV episodes as they played in Europe since the US airing didn't start till after the season completed for them.
Now the role is reversed, we go first and they have to wait.

Tonight's was last episode until new year tho, that sux.
A mid season finale? 10 episodes and a large break?, WTF is that (prolly Europe season begins and catches up to coincide)

Was odd getting used to Boomer and Starbuck being chicks this go round, and they leave so much hangin in side stories, need closure.

I grew up on the original, had one of those cylon raiders action toys, among other things lost in this era.

Eh, cool show tho.

It's a good show, but I don't have the FX channel.

My current 3 favs:

1) Lost (can't wait to see what happens this season)
2) Nip/Tuck (3rd Seasons are ususally the best)
3) Smallville ( UNBELIEVABLE acting... the whole Lex/Lionel/Clark/Lana/Chloe relationships are unbelievably well written and acted)
The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

Re: Battlestar Galactica...anyone else tuned to th

It's pretty cool. Very good, but not great.

I do wish it stuck a little closer to the original core characters, though. I could've done without the Starbuck as a chick thing. Don't get me wrong - the actress playing her does a great job and the "new" Starbuck is a very interesting character, flaws and all, that helps make the new show. I just think it would've worked better if we had the original Starbuck - as a guy - along with the new female one, though with a different name. They're different enough that it wouldn't have felt like there were "two Starbucks". And the new Apollo's a bit of a nancy-boy, ain't he?

So far, the space battles have been kind of lame and/or short. Obvious cost savings going on there. The whole biological Cylon thing has been very interesting, though, as has been most of the character development.

Yeah, bastards. Seems like a mutiny is in order.

I believe that it is the best show on television, but I'm afraid to say that out loud. Unless asked.

I tried to watch an episode. I loved the original, but this one I don't know about.

They had a press confrence on the episode I saw, and the reporters were wearing 3 piece suits just like on earth. Ya right, like they are going to have suits and ties exactly like we have on earth. Not much imagination there.

I also think it's the best show on TV, and I'll tell it to anyone who asks. I watch it pretty obsessively. BTW, the DVD collection for the miniseries and first season has just been released--I've got to go pick that up soon.

As far as the technology thing goes, that was a conscious decision by the creators of the show to depict a society essentially at our tech level but with more advanced space travel. At least they're not all wearing matching polyester jumpsuits like a certain other sci-fi franchise we all know...

I'm a pretty big fan of this show and its one of my favorites. I tend to like shows that don't pull any punches. The Wire, Rescue Me, The Shield, House, Lost and BSG are the only TV shows I watch. The only new show I like is that dark one on Friday, Threshold. But the first 3 I listed and BSG are the best shows on TV if you ask me. The Wire particularly.

I never liked the original BSG so I had no problems or preconceptions going into the new one. You can't get much better effects than this show has on a tv show budget.

In order to keep the costs down though I noticed they very rarely have CGI shots at all. Its kind of a shame, a friend of mine from college used to work for the company that did the effects for BSG, Firefly (and now the movie Serenity).

Yeah, I've gotten hooked into Threshold. It has huge technical problems(i.e. people out of rifle range 60 yards away, LOL), but it's still a fun show with some creepy elements. The best is watching these shows(threshold, surface, lost pretty much everything on the network primetime) on late at night in HDTV on the big screen, gives em a little edge.

The old BG had a limited special effects budget too. The one where the vipers shot out the BG's tube, many shots where ships would explode, etc were recycled over and over and over.

I don't mind so much on this - the show is more driven by characters and story than the effects. I prefer it this way.

At first female boomer and starbuck bugged me, but I got used to it. It's interesting seeing richard hatch on there now and then.
