Re: so we were discussing the 80\'s metal highest voice

Mike from Steelheart was the first singer in my band back in high school. His voice is pretty high.
Other high ones:
Early Geddy Lee
King Diamond
Mark Slaughter
Rob Halford
Sebastian Bach

Thanks for posting that! I haven't listened to that in years... gotta go through that old big bag of tapes in my closet and dig that out. I've got Into The Mirror Black on cd, never got Refuged Denied on cd for some reason. Gotta see if I can find that now. The slaughter is on!!! Joe , Century Media has them for 10 bucks a pop...go to their site www.centurymedia.com or call 1 -800-250-4600..I got mine on right now...Damn, Warrel Kicks ass!!!!...anyone that doesn't like Warrel's unique style in Nevermore should check out his stuff in Sanctuary , it is classic and amazing IMO..

I know the classic Metal banshee screams was so popular in the 80's..hell even Phil Anselmo did it on Cowboys..and Halford will always be KING..

but when it comes to great range and extreme high pitched vox .. Warrel just sounds bad ass..nothing like Mark Slaughter or Gillette..they sounded so fem and to me that is NOT what "metal is about..

here is some high sceamers that are worth checking out..truly benchmark quality singers.

James Rivera of Helstar..the mexican Halford..
Midnight of Crimson Glory
Allen Tecchio of hades / Watchtower/ Non fiction
Warrel Dane..he was the highest , in a very dark metal style..
Ray Alder / John Arch of Fates Warning..
Wade Black ..
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

the guy from steelheart is the one who sang a bunch of the steel dragon tunes in rockstar...d.m.

[/ QUOTE ]

Jeff Scott Soto (ex-yngwie singer) sang all of the songs in the movie

http://www.jeffscottsoto.com/jss/jss_bio.htm

go to about middle of the page and it'll tell ya. Here's a quote:

"Most of 1999 and 2000 was spent doing odd sessions here and there. Jeff recorded contributions for tributes to both Van Halen and Ozzy. He laid down lead vocals for the fictional band Steel Dragon for the film ‘Rock Star’. The fictional band was fleshed out by non-fictional musicians Jason Bonham (Bonham), Jeff Pilson (Dokken) and Zakk Wylde (Ozzy), the latter with whom Jeff recorded a series of demos that, as of this writing, have yet to see the light of day"

But I can understand the confusion. I thought it was the steelheart guy when I saw the movie.

p.s. since we're on the movie rockstar. Here's something I learned awhile back. Alot of you probably know but for those that dont. The guy at the end of the movie that marky mark ( ) brings up on stage is the singer for Alter Bridge. Just a little trivia for ya

Jeff Scott Sotto did alot of klunker solo material such as "Love parade"..But Humanimal . Human clay is OK.

That title alone should have gave me fair warning...OMG..what unlistenable crap.

It made Geoff Tate's and Timmo Tolki's solo discs look like a works of art..

aslo beware of any Glen Hues and Joe lyn Turner solo discs.. chances are they will make want get in touch with your feminine side..

Yes he has. He merged the two styles on the debut Nevermore album (Garden of Grey). And I agree, it's close between Warrel Dane & Midnight (Crimson Glory).

Not to pick nits. but it is Mike Matijevich.. I'd know that voice anywhere. This is from the movie review site.. after leaving his band, The Mayfield Four. The majority of the songs are also played by original 80's hair band musicians, including Wahlberg's singing voice which belongs to Mike Matijevic, lead singer of Steelheart.
John Scott Soto did other vocl tracks on the movie but Marc wahlburgs voice was mikes.

Cuthroat, Mike Matijevic DID sang on the Rockastar, most of the stuff were done by Jeff Scott Soto but Mike did a couple of tunes, one of the tunes on the movie was actually a modified verison of Steelheart's song. Also Sammy Hagar did one track.

Anyway, I like singers who can sing high with their NORMAL voice NOT falsetto, that's why I love Coverdale and Tate, they don't sing like a pig who is analy raped
