• Gig drinking stories... hurt my liver last night

Post yours too... I screwed up big time last night. Bar we played at is just over the Kansas border. They charge $4 a shot, and I usually have a drink or two before we start, and between sets.

Well, I had the bright idea to get a pint of tequila and put it in the keyboard player's car. (He drove, I rode and gave him gas $). I went out to the car before we played, and forgot to bring a shot glass. So, I bought a margarita from the bar and it came in a plastic cup - it was small, but a lot bigger than a shot glass. I went to his car after load in and soundcheck, and drank a cup full of tequila.

Played the first set, went over great. Visited the car, and had another cup of tequila.

Second set - I mostly remember.

Third set - had to be reconstructed by other band members. Apparently I tripped onstage once and fell to my knees, fell once OFF the stage and was down for the rest of the song, and spent the rest of the 3rd set with my forehead pressed against a wooden support while I played to keep me upright. I also never quit playing when I fell either. I don't remember much of the rest of the night after the 3rd set. Yes, they took pictures of me in full distress.

Thank god I have bandmates with a sense of humor - they thought it was hysterical. The bar made a shitload of money even though I screwed up the third set in places, and apparently all the bar patrons were so whacked by the third set that nobody there really noticed! The bar owner came out during the first set and said we were the best band he ever had in there, and wants us to play every other week. I think we're just going to do once a month, so we don't burn people out in the area, but a guaranteed gig a month is fine by me.

I talked to the guys in my band this morning apologizing profusely, and they all were cooler about it than I would have been. I'm really lucky to be in a band with fellows that are easy going... some of the bands I've been with would have left me at the bar after breaking my guitars.

Luckily I don't get sick from drinking, and rarely even get hung over. I woke up 8 hours after I got in last night, hopped in the shower and feel fine. But that's the last 'heavy drinking' I'll *ever* do at a show. I think my new 'drinking pattern' is going to be one drink per break, if that. And spending the $ for drinks at the gig will help keep my drinking down.

Ok, who else has had a bit too much to drink onstage and wants to confess?

Oooffff - that sounds like an (entertaining) nightmare! I've had consistent drinks through the night so the encore was a little bit more 'entertaining' than intended, but nothing to that level - I generally left that to the singers!

I've only drank enough onstage to play badly really, or maybe I should say really badly, haha...

A bass player in a band I used to be in, got so drunk onstage at one of our shows that he pissed himself near the end of the show... That was pretty disturbing... He did keep playing though... I guess that was good...

The only way that shit works is if you have been playing the SOS for years. I went to a concert years and years ago to see the Youngbloods. Jesse Colin Young got so drunk he probably didn't know where he was. Don't you ever do THAT AGAIN!!!!

I didn't barf or piss myself... thank God. I've never been so drunk that I urinated in my pants. I think what really got me is that I wasn't able to 'count' my drinks well. I usually just drink enough at a gig to where I'm barely buzzed - just in an amiable mood. I'm not the type of guy who really likes working the crowd between sets, so a drink or two makes me a little more social.

Supposedly they are going to send me pics of the 'event' I may post em on here if they aren't too disturbing.

Well. maybe you can "rock on the rocks" But if you want to be a rock and roll star, you have to build a tolerance or die trying.

Noooo.... hahaha... Some other dude.. I'd never continue to hang out with some one who pisses themselves... At least not for maybe another 30-40 years!

Thankfully, Bill doesn't really drink, haha... He does tend to spill drinks on other people a lot though...

Heh...yeah, I had a number of "forgotten" gigs in my sordid past. I've fallen off of high stages, puked just off the side of the stage...well, the whole list, been there, done that.

Man, that is funny, Pete! I just cannot picture you that drunk onstage...but I can picture you somehow holding it together...kinda!

Yup, time to chill on the "on the gig" drinking. That was the shot acroos the bow, your warning. Heed it, young man.

Too much boose and me do not mix well for the following reason: Alot of classic rock/70s songs are VERY similar. Same chord pattern, just different timing and whatnot. When I get too much booze in me, I will start off with one song, and somehow end up playing another somewhere in the middle of the song.-Lou

                        Bwahaha! I did that before!

Some zz Top songs, the band started playing one, I started playing another, and damn, it fit pretty darn good. Just got a lot of strange looks from the band and the crowd... Then I realized "something just isn't right here"... But by then, it was too late. Much too late... The stupidity had been unleashed and noticed.

The effect on the the song was devastating... The effect on my ego was, well... Doubly Devastating...

Sadly, I was not really all "too" drunk... I blame it all on just not hearing much monitor, and some ummm, miscommunication... No, really, I'm serious... Really...

Ha, great story Pete. For better or worse, your situation is one I'm very familiar with. Our band's name is Cold Filtered so that's a bad sign right there. We are sponsored by Miller Beer.

We get so drunk when we play that we often don't even remember what songs we played the next day. At our last gig the crowd bought each band member 9 shots of Jack Daniels, we drank them all. We have a very regular following but they drink a lot too, so I guess they don't mind. We are not great, but man we're having fun...

Here's a couple samples of what we look like while we're
                            doing our thing....

Us opening for Great White (the shirtless guy is a local DJ): toast!

Me doing what I do best (not playing): yummy, Miller beer

Our singer hitting it: yummy, J.D.

So Pete, take heart in knowing that there will always be rockers out there making fools out of themselves right along with you every weekend.

pete, with all that 3% beer you have up there, i'd think that your liver now has the image of the virgin mary weeping burned into it!

i did have a bad run in with tequila semi recently; apparently, the shotglasses we have at casa del sully are double shot size. i was unaware of that until it was far too late. oh man, that was baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. never in my life have i woken up still drunk, and still heaving!
