Re: I drank before work this morning.

it used to take me $40.00 just to get out of bed. take it real easy zeegs cuz it's no fun coming back up after hitting the bottom if you hit your bottom. you may not have and it was still bad news. i've had many bottoms thinking i'd hit it bottom, but there's always more room to go.believe me.

i second what newc said, except that i'd say one week (including the usual "party weekend" !). if you can stand watching your buds get drunk without having to drink you're fine imho.

but then again, don't ask me, i'm drinking right now....i was going to say just a "chill out beer", but well, that seems to prove what was said above....

One day or one week don't really indicate much IMO.

Hey Zeeg what do you think? That is what is important here do you think you have a problem?

If you can't go a day without a drink of any kind or strength, or any reason, you have a problem.
The second you say to yourself, "Oh, I'm in control of it...", you're not in control of it. Your kidding yourself.

Try this: Stop drinking for one month. Can ya do it? Not talk about it...do it?

Agreed. If you think you may have a problem, the easiest way to tell is to stop for a month. That alone should tell you what you need to know.

I would prefer to just smoke a doobie every night, but I have asthma, and if I smoke weed every night I start to have problems. I have to be careful with my weed smokage.

The time alone doesn't do it... although I know what you mean but can you go the month and not think about drinking? If you can and suddenly you realize it was habitual and it ends up being 3 months without noticing it you don't have a problem. If you think about it everyday while "dry" it is a problem.

You had the balls to tell us about it. I guess you figured out it may have not been a too bright of an idea. I would say: "Be responsible. And then, when that's done, have a drink." But don't mix the order. There are people counting on you.

Had some time to read through the thread. I kinda had the same situation happen to me. When I was on vacation a few years ago the first thing I did when I woke up at 9AM (rolled right outta bed) was opened a beer, and I didn't even realize I was doing it. Threw it out right away when I realized what I did, but the point is sometimes ya gotta step back and slow down. Just realize when and how much you drink and if you see a problem, just stop or slow down BEFORE there is a real problem.

Well, just to be clear, I can easily go a few days without drinking. Sure I may think at 4:30 "wow, I could really go for a beer", but it's the taste of beer that I crave. I never think "I could really go for a gin and tonic". Okay well maybe sometimes.

If you are looking for a guideline to follow to figure out its a problem. Which it seams like that is what your asking and I will tell you.
The Medical Mental Health professional and addiction medicine specialist across the country follow this guide line for alcoholism/drug addiction believe it or not its the same thing, but anyways:

The guideline:
One negative consequence in your life in any aspect financial, health relationships; as a result of your drinking drug use is diagnosed as alcohol or drug abuse.

Two or more negative consequences in your life in any aspect is addiction and/or alcoholism.

This is what the Health care profession goes by.

What a load of crap

Not to make light of a serious problem, but to generalize the conditions of addiction in that manner is absolutely idiotic. I've certainly done more to screw myself financially and relationship-wise while I was sober than any time that I was drinking. By these guidelines, sobriety must be illness for me. I guess I'll plan on fixing that condition tonight
