hehe true - i was possibly expecting a bit more thrash death metal on the jackson front - a lot of the metal metal bands i know over in the uk are like all playing soloists and kellys

Ugly Kid Joe were not Hair Metal. They weren't even ANY Metal. Yeah they used distortion, but so did .38 Special and Skynrd [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Also try some file-sharing apps like Emule to find those other bands. Normally I'm against the free distribution of music because a CD not sold means they don't get the money, but I detest those candy-ass ripoffs that Donny mentioned, so screw 'em [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]oke

I like some of it, like Tesla. I just love the overall feeling of 80's decadence that radiates off of them. I'm an 80's nut.

Any heavy listening to it will cause stomach contraction and subsequent deposit of content though.....

Well, I wouldn't necessarily consider all of those bands hair metal. Most hair metal is crap IMO, but the ones you listed aren't.

While WASP were more shock metal like Alice Cooper, the others definitely had the sappy ballads and "boo hoo life as a teenager with a permanent hard-on is soooo difficult" songs, as well as soloing for the sake of hearing a meedly [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

i think there is a whole overlap between like hair metal and glam/shock rock - the definition of hair metal we have over here is van halen crossed with punk and given the fact neither of those are metal - where does the metal bit come from? i mean u could say that dokken were more metal than the others because they play in a lot of noticeably minor keys and their tracks like into the fire, tooth and nail, and kiss of death have a more metal rythm and are heavier than anything else produced in that genre i suppose but there's nothing out and out metal about any of them. and to be honest going by this definition only poison really had anything punk about them....

to be fair power ballads aren't anything new and particular to hair metal - bonnie tyler/meatloaf/scorpions anyone?? it was just something particular to the 80's in general i think....

Hair Metal killed "Metal"..Grunge was the anti make-up/Hair and glam..

Honestly they are all one in the same..Hair , Nu , Grunge , all pop based cookie cutter trends based on image instead of talent. That was promoted relentlesly by big record labels that bought massive air time for contant rotation to spoon feed the hungry sheep ..although there were exceptions ..Alice In Chains , Soundgarden and STP were actually cutting edge and very talented bands for example..

"Nu" was nothing but dummied down Hair/Glam..it was all based on image..just look how ridiculous those tools looked ..which wouldn't be so bad if they could actually play their way out of a wet paper bag..instead of slammin' a two note chord progression over some Rap BS with no solos because they couldn't play em...but they sure can strike a pose!!!! Yes Dokken / Motley Crue / Queensryche / Ratt and so on all jump on the Hair band wagon..it was what they had to do to get paid..but at least those fuckers could play..

That was the beginning of the end for Dokken..I remember a Lynch interview when his was very discontent is wearing all that gay crap that Don imposed on them..because that's what everyone else was doing..even Kiss..Their was a time in the mid 80's where bands wore womans clothes and nothing but....they were all freaking cross dressers for the love of baby Jesus..That's not fucking METAL..writing pop love songs and radio friendly power ballads "Metal"..that was 15 year old chick music. what you want to make fun of Black metal..go ahead..at least there wern't trying to look like chicks...it was an image of evil..muck like Alice Cooper , and Kind Diamond , Venom ect., and very symbolic to Satan ..but they could play...some of the BEST drummers in the world are black metal drummers..and if you really listened to bands such as Emperor , Dimmu , COF , Covenant , Arcturus , Borknager , Satyricon , Old mans Child ..those guys could .."Play"...it wasn't just based on image alone..obviously...it wasn't about what was popular or making money..it was a labor of love and dedication.
