Re: anyone like hair metal?

Tim , E I aggree..I also think Black metal bands look like fags..what can I say..my pint was tho..some of the top shelf black metal band were very capable musicians and didn't just base their product on Image alone..

and of course there was some HORRIBLE black metal bands with or without looking like retards..but the bands that I had mentioned above are very talented ..whether you like their style or not...they can out shred me on my best day ..most of them.

More than I can say for Nu or Grunge..

To me Metal is a way of life , an mindset , an attitude.. "cherrie pie" or "pour some sugar" on me just don't cut it with me as being.."metal"...old Metallica / Exodus / Kreator / Coroner / Iced Earth / Brainstorm / Nevermore...that's metal in my book...I know these things...you know I know these things!!

even tho I did have the hots for Bobby Brown ..the hottie NOT the crackhead!!

Re: anyone like hair metal?

the key here is we all like metal but as we all know metal comes in various forms and how metal and how heavy is really down to personal opinion

i like hair metal - i also like a lot of the other bands mentioned by horns and starrider. yes there is a wide difference but i like to embrace metal in all its forms.

its like religion really (wow metal and religion!!) just because someone is methodist and someone is a jehovas witness doesn't make one right or truer or closer to christs teaching over the other they're both just christians - they just chose to embrace different beliefs...

Well because E , and I don't mean any disrespect..but you simply don't know the difference.

I know all the players in the game..you don't.

That's just a fact.

I like you E , I'm not being sarcastic or cocky just stating a simple fact.

Most of the bands I listen to YOU never heard of..but I know of ALL the bands you like.

I know both sides of the coin..you only know one side..maybe just a quick sample of a crappy band here and there..but not enough to actualy.."know".

One thing I have established here is credabilty...I know METAL..not many people her can argue that fact..not logicaly.

It's basically the reason why I stay here..I'm appreciated for my knowledge of this stuff , and get PMs EVERY day from you guys wanting more new metal stuff..and I answer all those PMs...of all genres of TRUE metal.

I could help you...I know the genre of metal you like I can turn you onto so many bands that YOU would love..try me..

BTW ..Religion is a bad analogy man..

yes thats very nice but who the hell are savatage accept andel witch UDO and raven? never heard opf them in my life!! u can't just pass off other bands anyway - like why are these bands i've never heard of truer than say megadeth or black label society?? they're all just metal - it doesn't make one more real than the other - what criteria is this supposed truth based on?? ur own personal opinio0n of which bands are good perhaps?? such a blanket statement is not gonna hold up necessarily to other other people's interpretation of metal now is it?

I think you need a Metal History lesson
Who the hell is Accept?
Your kidding right?
Go get a copy of Restless and Wild and you'll find out who they are., A Real Metal Band buy anybodys interpretation of Metal
Not sugar coated pop in white leather

BTW: good or bad has nothing to do with it
There are lots of good and bad Metal bands
But they are all Metal bands.
not my opinion, a fact

Bill, I'm not bashing metal, and I knew a lot about metal, in fact I was a big metal fan...once... I live in Europe where Metal is 100 times bigger than in the USA, there are A LOT of metal fans here, and I know A LOT of them
I just don't like the term "real/true metal" to me it is silly because it presents narrow mindness and lack of imagination. If some real metal wants to make just a one ballad for the labum, then they are in deep shit, because they are nor real metal anymore or maybe some prog/jazz jam or bluegrass anthem you get the point
Metal is just name for a music style, nothing more, so is jazz, baroque, country etc. And one thing that really pisses me of is labeling, who the fuck cares wich style certain band presents, the most important thing is that they play good music. There are only two different music syles in my book: good music and bad music.
Once I did the difference, sabbath, metallica, maiden, they were the real bands, korn, linkin' park they weren't real metal bands. There were some really good bands that did very interesting music, but they weren't REAL METAL and therefore they sucked. OMFG how stupid I was. I'm glad that novadays my musical taste is VERY broad and I don't care about catorigizing.

Re: anyone like hair metal?

yup, has to do with a look, a feel, life style, musical style, lyric's
The whole package.
Most of the bands write from the darker side of life.
And play agressive
Early Sabbath and the directly linked bands that followed
Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden etc......etc...etc... this is a direct link, heritage if you will? Subgenres, there are many: Thrash, Speed, Black, and so on.

But as a guide line the phrase Real/True help define types of metal
Nothing wrong with Linkin Park . but their not True Metal
My Fav type of Metal is Progressive, opps there I go again

those bands u just mentioned are not that agressive especially in their playing style - maybe metallica and slayer would count but bands like led zep have written dark lyrics ... as did evanescance i believe....oooh they're not metal are they?...oh and meatloaf wrote some dark lyrics in his ctime too about despair tragecy etc...maiden and priest are great guys there's nothing dark or agressive about them whatsoever even ozzy - he's so un dark he gets riduculed for his crazy antics

its clear that everyone has a different interpretation of what metal is - if it wasn't for that individual difference all metal bands would sound the same but they don't blatently thats why we have genres as diverse as thrash, pop metal, hair metal, glam, numetal, death, black, hardcore, NWOAHM etc...

and as a point the first band to actually say they were heavy metal was priest not sabbath and to be fair priest could quite easily link to the whole glam thing with their dress sense - halford says in the interviews here that priest were the first true heavy metal band and tony iommi has always said he thought sabbath was always more of a hard rock band than a metal band - its in the DVD the last supper
