Ok, laugh if you want, but I bought a Sony CD350 digital camera from Wal-Mart tonight. It was on their Clearance table in a box marked "Display" (it was the in-store display model).
I inspected it before buying it - even had them plug it in to make sure it worked - but it wouldn't power on when plugged in, and the battery had long since drained. However, the Battery Charge light was on when plugged in, so I know it's getting juice.
Since I knew nothing previously of this particular camera, I bought it ($175, marked down from $400, with all the accessories in the box - cables & 2 discs) hoping it was just one of those times where the camera can't be used with the AC adaptor, only with the battery.
Sooo I got it home and read the book and it does say it can run off the AC. However, it's still not powering on. I put a disc in it, I've removed and re-injected the battery, and I've read the Troubleshooting guide, however, I won't know for sure if anything's really wrong until the battery is charged (2.5 hours charge time, been charging for about an hour or more now).
Has anyone tried getting Sony to fix a camera? Has anyone tried getting Sony to fix anything bought on Clearance? There's a big white sticker on the inside of the box that says not to return it to the store if it has a problem, but to call Service and Tech Support.
I went to the site and poked through the FAQ and such, but nothing there fits except to send it in for service.
The chick at Wal Mart said if it didn't work to just bring it back within 30 days, but I know Wal-Mart and IIRC they have a "No Return" policy for Clearance items.
Besides, if Sony can fix it for free or cheap, then I've got a $400 camera for maybe half price.
