• My Dad's Cancer Free.....Whoo Hoooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just had to share this, as some of you know what's been going on with my dad for the last couple months/years.

My dad had lung cancer, and they started a pretty aggressive regimin of chemo-therapy and radiation for quite a while.

My dad and I are very close even though we're apart geographically. The news killed me when I learned that he had "it". My dad is 70 years old, not a spring chicken anymore. To add to that, they live in Maine and it's a very unforgiving and harsh environment to live in, at any age.

I kept calling home, asking my mom how he was doing, occassionally talkin to the "old guy" as I lovingly call him. Sometimes he couldn't get up to talk to me, or was so sick he was bed-ridden. This wrenched my heart out to see the guy I've known all these years in that state. It hurts when somebody you love as much as life itself this way...as there's nothing you can do.

Anyway, I called home tonight and talked to my Mom...and she said "hey, Dad want's to talk to you....he needs to tell you something"...well, immediately, my heart dropped and my stomach knotted up....fearing the worst but hoping for the best. In his usual Yankee way, he beats around the bush, goes to Grandma's house for a coffee, and finally meanders back to say "I'm cancer free"!!

Now, I know that this may be only temporary, and I'm accepting that fact, but I'm just so thrilled that I can talk to my dad for a while longer...just to hear his voice.

Anyway...trying to avoid the sap train...but I'm excited...and I consider you my extended family....some of you very close friends.

Thanks for listening, and NEVER take those you love for granted...life is oh so very short, enjoy them.

That's great news, Sam- I wasn't aware of your dad's situation but it's nice that things have worked out. It's a little late now, but if you want to put him in contact with our cancer researchers please let me know.

Again, congrats on the great news. I can't imagine what I would do if it happened to my family.

Outstanding news, I'm very glad to hear it Sam! Your dad must have a bit of that Marine toughness about him as well, lung cancer is a tough one to beat.

                  Sam,

                  A message to your father:

As a two time survivor of less than half your experience,I am well aware of the rigors of treatment for this affliction.Having endured months of chemo and 3 surgeries,I know the discomforts and exhaustion it entails.

I raise my glass to you,Warrior,in honor of your steadfast will and it's triumph...

I will tell you this. I had about 2 years when me and my dad did a lot of stuff together. He was 58 and I was 35. And then, he died. Do everything you can to be with him. Because, he is "IT". I am about to cry. May your dad live for many years to come.
