• Priest & Anthrax pictures and review! 56k beware!!

October 14, 2005, in Ottawa... my first time seeing Anthrax and Judas Priest!

Anthrax played a full hour. I'm not a fan but my brother seemed to recognize a few songs and they proved themselves to be one heck of a tight band. Scott played Washburns the entire time, and Danny played a PRS. If I were a little closer to the front, I might have made out what looked like Ninja Turtles graphics on Danny's PRS.

I was there for THE PRIEST. They must've played for about two hours. The setlist, in reasonably-close-to-exact-order, was:

-The Hellion / Electric Eye
-Metal Gods (by now, I had headbanged myself silly and my throat was getting sore from all the shouting/singing already... that's how much I headbanged and shouted!)
-Riding On The Wind
-Touch Of Evil
-Judas Rising
-Diamonds & Rust (acoustic)
-Worth Fighting For
-Beyond The freakin' Realms Of Death!!!!!
-I'm A Rocker
-Hellrider
-Turbo Lover
-Breaking The freakin' Law
-Revolution
-Victim Of Changes (ultra extended version)
-PainKILLLLLLLAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

ENCORE:
-Rob rides his Harley on stage for Hell Bent For Leather
-Living After Midnight
-Whoa-ooh-whoa-ooh-whoaaa-YEAH! You've Got Another Thing Coming (extended midsection version)

The sound was incredible. You know how the guitars are slightly chorused on the "Screaming For Vengeance" album? This live show sounded exactly like that, except more modern and extremely thick. Glenn played his white Hamer 4-point star thing you all know, his black-with-chrome-pickguard-and-maple-fretboard Hamer Phantom thing, and a new guitar that looked kind of like an upside-down Jackson Death Angel. For "Diamonds & Rust", he played his ESP Eclipse (Les Paul style) semihollow. KK played Gibson Vs (red and natural) although I THINK one of them MIGHT have been an ESP roundhorn V like Mike Amott's from Arch Enemy. KK also had a red King V style guitar that had the Judas Priest logo shaped headstock (you can see that guitar in pic #7 below). I am not sure what acoustic guitar he played for "Diamonds & Rust".

The visuals... the light show was fantastic and was completely different for each song. There were various backdrop changes... "Electric Eye" DVD background, "Angel Of Retribution" background, Judas Priest logo background, and probably one more I am forgetting. Rob changed costumes a few times, almost as often as Glenn and KK switched guitars. The stage was multi-tiered with Judas Priest flags, elevators, and those fake cloth flame things. It was a feast for the eyes as well as the ears.

Damn ushers kept telling me to put my camera away during the show, so I didn't manage to get Priest live pics and video. They didn't seem to mind after the encore was finished, though. So I chose some of my better pics and posted them below. No camera flash!

I saw Priest last year, with pretty much the same setlist and gimmicks. The show was awesome!

Saw Anthrax earlier that day too, Death Angel too, Evergrey too, Children Of Bodom too,...
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

You forgot the best part, there was only 3000 people there. That is an embarrassment................

I read the paper today and there was no mention of the attendance, although I think I remember Joey made some comment about how sparse the crowd was. Jeez, there were still seats available in the first three rows (VIP seats, I think) that I was wanting to snag from my 6th row seat.

Truly embarrassing, but it meant that I was able to get a good parking spot and there was little in the way of a traffic jam leaving the arena.

Accept2, where was your seat?

How many people did the place hold? Only sad when the place is half empty. I would pay well to see Anthrax and Priest in a venu that held 5000 or less.

The way the arena was set up last night, it could hold up to 7,400 guests. The normal configuration for hockey games holds a little over 19,000 guests.

I looked around me between songs, and there were a lot of 200-level seats that weren't filled up.

That's because Priest and Anthrax don't have dj's and use samples, they can actually play...I would have loved to have seen them when they came here, but they played on a frickin Tuesday, working for a living sucks....Besides all that,I would have to find a babysitter for the 4 fucktards that listen to that crap with the dj's and (c)rap parts in them..
Bon Jovi is like a frozen Coca Cola.. It's cool, it's crunchy, but when all is said and done it is still pop....

I ended up not going. I know some people who wanted to go, but didnt even know about the show. If the promoter lost money, its thier own fault. The dudes from Exciter were there as well as Annihilator though...........
