  • Criss Oliva

Yesterday was the 12th anniversary of the passing of one of my top influences. Some of you have Randy, I have Criss. I was so wrapped up and worked up over things on the board and off the board it had completely slipped my mind.

    RIP Criss.

    [ QUOTE ]
    I am the way
    I am the light
I am the dark inside the night
    I hear your hopes
    I feel your dreams
    And in the dark
    I hear your screams
    Don't turn away
    Just take my hand
And when you make your final stand
    I'll be right there
    I'll never leave
    All I ask of you
    Believe

He was one of my major influences early on as well. It is even cooler, having worked with some people who were his closest friends, to get to know some of the "person" behind the genius.
    RIP

I never put any time into Savatage, mainly because of that cover tune they did - Day After Day or something. It was horrible and I may have judged the band on one bad song.

Where should I start if I want to get a proper taste of these guys?

          RIP Criss.

I would suggest anything from when they started working with Paul O'Neil. He seemed to bring out the best in Criss.

              Hall of the Mountain King
              Gutter Ballet
              Streets: A Rock Opera
              Edge of Thorns
              Final Bell/Ghost In The Ruins

**Shotgun Innocence on Poets and Madmen is a bonus track which features the last song that Criss played on. It was recorded during the Edge of Thorns session but didn't make the album.
