In regards to the public memorial thing...

Maybe EVH doesn't handle scenes of grief very well, it could be very far out of his comfort zone. He may have been behaving the only way he knew how when encountered with grief and sadness.

See, I have to believe that EVH has it together. He's my guy, the King, the reason I picked up a guitar and being able to create like him still motivates me. The fact that his ex-bandmates talk shit about him holds as much water as what my ex-girlfriends say about me - none. He'd have to prove to me that he is an ass and an egomaniac for me to believe it. Just because it's written in a magazine doesn't make it true.

I know a lot of you guys don't understand, but I will never be able to crack on someone like Ed Van Halen. As much as I dislike many musicians I try not to take shots at people who have accomplished more than I have, or will, in the field of music...especially when the majority of us base our "facts" on words from those with sour grapes.

Anybody who would join the band now, would be complete puppet. As was stated in an earlier thread, when you have a drinking problem for years and years it does something to you, it changes you. You aren't the same person you were in your 20s and 30s, when if you stopped drinking you could bounce back a little easier.

These things don't just happen overnight. I'm sure the producers would salivate over the idea of getting VH for the second season, but they could still cancel the show during pre-production if it doesn't look like Eddie could behave himself.

I don't want to see a reunion with DLR or any other such nostalgia trip. I want to see EVH sober up, get together with a great group of musicians (whether it's VH or not), and make some kickass music--even if they end up playing clubs. From all I've heard/read, though, I'm not sure he really gives a shit anymore, accept for easy paydays.

MTV News has issued the following statement regarding the reports that VAN HALEN may audition potential singers in a possible second season of the reality television series "Rock Star":

"VAN HALEN will not be taking INXS' lead by participating in a possible second season of the reality television series 'Rock Star', according to the band's spokesperson.

"MTV News erroneously reported Wednesday [Oct. 19] that a source close to the program claimed that if 'Rock Star' does return for a second season, that the core VAN HALEN trio — Michael Anthony and brothers Alex and Eddie Van Halen — would be the band auditioning potential singers. The band flatly denies any involvement in the show.

"MTV News had also previously reported that a spokesperson for VAN HALEN said the band had no comment regarding pending projects. However, that spokesperson was never asked specific questions regarding the group's hypothetical involvement with the 'Rock Star' show; MTV News regrets the oversight.
