The whole US scene including bands like quiet riot, ratt etc were labelled as metal .. I beleive the proper term was L.A Metal

Good answers. There's just one thing: Did the Brown Sound not give metal guitarists a tone to strive for? And doesn't Eruption strike you as metal?

I few writers have described AC/DC as metal, but I'd disagree with that just as the rest of you have.

first of all, Eruption changed the whole guitar playing in rock and brown sound isn't metal at all IMHO.

Back it the day (late 70s early 80s) VH was considered Metal, but not to me.
I was listening to Priest, Angel Witch, Venom, Savatage, and Maiden, that was Metal to me

Never liked or wanted any part of Spandex or Big Hair

For me if a band has done anything for the evolution of metal, it can be considered as metal... If I hear a band like Ac/dc now I won't call it as metal but Ac/Dc itself can be considered as metal since they were one of the most "metal" bands at that time [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
