Yup. It broke down on the highway yesterday on the way to work, luckily a coworker saw me and gave me a ride. Apparently all the towing places are closed on Sunday here, so I figure I'll just have it towed on Monday. Got a ride back home, it's still there on the side of the road. But I went out there today to have it towed to the shop, and its gone....I called the police and the highway patrol, and no one has any record of towing it. The worst part was, I'm a dumbass and left some paycheck stubs and bank statements in it. I had to call and have a fraud alert put on my ss#, and I had to close my bank account today as well. Not a good day!

Re: Someone stole my car
your car will be used in some crime prolly..a robbery , Drive By shooting , parts..nothing to worry bout though..since it's reported Stolen.
I assume the car is a loss being a 88 Toyota ..I assume you just had liabitlity.

Re: Someone stole my car
If it was broken down, how did it get stolen? Somebody towed it away?
Naw...too much work to steal a car that isn't operatable. And for what? Unless it was a very valuable car with lots of high dollar parts, it was towed by the law.
The authorities will eventually find their asses with both hands and a floodlight, but it will take a few days, and oh by the way, YOU will pay for those few days of storage in the impound yard.
I would start searching tow yards in the area of where the car was.

Used in a crime? Hmm...
I suppose we'll see those guys on one of those "stupidist" criminal shows:
"...and the two men attempted to flee the scene in an 88 Toyota. Apparently one was pushing and the other was steering. They were overrun by a police officer on a bicycle and a meter maid on her lunch break."I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

Re: Someone stole my car
You know, that explains the rash of "towings" I've seen so much of lately! You know, the "folks" who are driving one down-trodden looking vehicle that's towing another one? And usually there's a line of them going down the highway, 2,3,4 or more at a time. I wonder if they have some deal going on where they just cruise the highways looking for broken down cars to nab.
Interestingly enough, EVERY group of these dudes I've seen during the past year or more is driving SOUTH bound on I-35 (here in TX). Toward where? Uh... Mexico maybe? Can you say, Chop-o-rama?
Quite the scam, if you ask me. If they catch a car soon after someone leaves it then it will likely be hours before the person knows it's missing. If they're only hours away from the border, then there is no way the border patrol would know it's a hot car.
Swipe/ka-ching!
Maybe they ship 'em off to Iraq for car bombing cars or somethin! lol

Re: Someone stole my car
Living in TX the cars that you see being towed are usually headed to Mexico where even a POS is worth alot. I had an 85 firebird that got stolen. I only paid 800 for the thing but it was not a total POS. Someone decided they needed my 100.00 cd palyer so they stole my car and slammed it into pole. I still managed to find my car before the police. Like the line goes "You want to find an outlaw, hire an outlaw. You want to find a Dunkin' Donuts, call a cop.

Yeah Tim , it's true they steal that kinda stuff for doing that crap. I never chased a porche , Vette , or Viper..never.
We had hard enough time trying to keep up with these nuts running from us in the biggest peices of crap you can imagine..I mean these dicks drive on rims , mufflers are ripped off from curbs , sparks flying everywhere...when you afraid of going to jail you wouldn't believe the boldness/ stupidity of these guys..
We were chasing this one stolen car..for a while it was a 80s old cutlass..for some reason the Olds cutlass was the most popular car to steal in the hood..why I don't know..but it was a 13 year old kid ..with a big pair of vice grips for a steering wheel..I shit you not..it didn't have a steering wheel..and this kid was driving like a pro..until he smashed into a house..
