My uncle is in Griffith, IN (just outside of Gary) and he and my cousin Brad (in Whiting, IN just over the border of Chicago) are both die-hard Cubs fans.

[ QUOTE ]
Don with the Yanks and Mets it isn't the same thing. The Mets aren't as old as the Yanks and say it was the Dodgers or Giants it would have a deeper history. The Yanks have dominated the town so much that it isn't the same. Plus the Met's have fans? I thought only Manhattan Snobs liked the Mets

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, your right, the longevity isn't there between Yanks and Mets.

As for the Mets having fans, I think they're really diplaced, disgruntled Red Sox fans, sent to our city against their wishes, then become Mets fans, just to be a thorn.

Oops.......sorry to get off the subject Tekky. There must be a real Cubs hatred for that guy who deflected the foul ball out there in left field a couple of years ago. Good that your staying neutral. If I were a Chicagoan, I'd probably be dedicated to one team also, probably the Cubs, cause Sully likes the ChiSox. Yeah, it's best for me to stay neutral. Hell, I don't even like baseball. My wife though, she's in the middle of enemy territory, she's a Cardinals fan.

Ah yes... Steve Bartman. You can't really say his name in my neighborhood.

Can you believe that people paid money not only to press the button that blew up the ball he caught, but Harry Caray's chefs cooked the remnants of the ball into a pasta sauce and served it to fans.

That same rivalry used to exist in the NFL between the Bears (who played at Wrigley) and the Chicago Cardinals (who played at Comiskey until they moved to St. Louis in 1960).

Re: Title would upset pathetic harmony in city

i hate 2 or 3 team people. i'm rooting for the sox cuz i am an american leaguer fan, and i love shoeless joe, in my top 9 players of all time. but once it's over it's fuck you sox again. in 1986, i went into St. Anastasia's Catholic church, dropped a coin in, begged god if there was a way to make them both lose, the red sox and the mets because they ,along now with the angels are a 3 way tie for most hated teams ever on my list most hated. i need a fourth so let's throw the red sox or mets in there again. any day the mets lose is a great day.

Re: Title would upset pathetic harmony in city

Well, growing up in Arizona when there was no MLB, I had already picked my favorite team....the Astros. My family moved around a lot in my younger years and we lived in a small town south of Houston when I was real young and we went to the Dome for an Astros game in 1975. It's ironic that as an adult my career would land me in Houston twice and I've spent most of my adult life here so it sure is convenient that I'm an Astros fan.

Anyway, we ended up in Arizona for many years and as luck would have it the Astros AAA team at the time was the Tucson Toros so, it still made sense to be an Astros fan. (not that it would matter, I've never even been to DC but my football team is the 'Skins)

When the D'Backs came into the league I was living in Houston at the time but followed them as well as my second favorite team. I was so happy that Phoenix got a team.

In a twist of baseball fate, career path took me back to Phoenix for 2001. Yeah, baby! How did you like 2001 Yankee fan?? (obviously, I'm talking baseball here)

Yes, I'm a 2 teamer and I just don't care!

Finally, my first love Astros are in the Series. Wow!! Hopefully they can get things turned around tonight. It's going to be tough but we'll see how it goes.

For the record I was pulling for the White Sox to win the AL. They're a damn good team and if they win it all they certainly deserve it.

Baseball is fixed, just like boxing, next year the Cubs will win.

Actually people in Chicago do like two teams.

If you're a Sox fan, your favorite teams are the Sox (obviously) and whoever's beating the Cubs.

If you're a Cubs fan, well, you get the idea...

the 2001 Yankee Team is my favorite Yankee team of all time even though we lost in the 9th. it was a fluke when rivera threw that ball and pulled jeter off the bag. i want that 9th inning back. that team clawed it's way from the depths of hell and gave the city something to chear about , i thought we ha d the diamondbacks after the way he sat them down in the 8th and curt schilling was crying again on the bench until his team bailed him out in the 9th. next to '75, the 2 best world series i have seen so far.
