Re: Fan Compliments.... chime in fella\'s

The only compliments I get are from my wife. And that's when I turn it down. I probably had the same dream as most here as far as making it in music. That didn't last long when I realized I had no drive anymore to play guitar. Anything I played just sounded sterile to me and was missing something. So I sold all my shit. It was during that break from guitar when I finally figured out what music was about. And that's feeling. I still can't read music. Still only know a few scales and chords from the minimal amount of lessons I took when I was younger. But I think I'm a better player now because I figured out what it's about. I just play for my own enjoyment now. That's good enough for me. If you play out and someone compliments you it meant they felt something from your music. And again that's what it's all about.
We must!
We must!
We must increase the bust!
The bigger the better!
The tighter the sweater!
The boys are counting on us!

If I can get a blowjob out of playing the guitar, that is good enough for me.

The only comments I get are:

"when does the DJ start"
"are you going to make that noise all night?"
"you suck"
"nice guitar"
"with practice you'll get better"
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

I always say thank you regardless if I believe them or not it is just the polite thing to do.

I tell ya enjoy playing more now than I did when I was trying to make it, no stress, no bullshit, just the sake of enjoyment.

I say focus more on now and the future and not on what did or did not happen in your past. You are a couple years older than me so I can understand it. I'm a fairly happy guy and I'm perfectly content and accept who and what I am. So what, I'm not rock star, NHL player or multi-millionaire. If my purpose in life is to raise my 2 kids to grow up to be respectable men, I'll take it, go with it and enjoy everything I can while I'm on this earth.

If you aren't enjoying it maybe you should step away from it for a while. You might come back with fresh attitude and new level of enjoyment.

I did a gig once using a Dual Rectifier full stack and a guy came up to me and told me that if I keep practicing and stick with it that one day I might be able to get a Marshall amp.

Re: Fan Compliments.... chime in fella\'s

I like when normal people give me compliments, when some hot chick who doesn't know anything about guitar playing tells me that I kick ass, it means more to me than the compliment from some high class musician.

I've played 300bpm arpeggios and whatnot on my knees in front of +6000 people, some chicks said that they love how I play solos, I've even got laid because of that.

Compliments kick ass

Hahaha... Same here. A guy was quizically looking at my CAE3+se/VHT2150 rig, and said "wow, you're really good, you should get a professional amp like a Marshall"!!! I was rolling...

My wifes older sister was 37 years old, a Budweiser model, a marathon runner, a marine biologist and a coastal engineer. She could could go offshore fishing in her own boat during the day, gut a Tuna, and that nite absolutely take your breath away with her beauty. She died last year of lung cancer 10 days after being diagnosed. Never touched a cigarette.

Thats a tragedy and a failure. Not making a bazillion dollars and being in a famous band isnt. I own more guitars than chords I can play, but I smile through everyone of those chords because I am alive and able to have fun doing something.

If you still enjoy playing, then its definitely not a failure.

Let me see I know A, C, D....is there an E . Crap I have twice as many guitars as chords I know. I thank God every day because I can wake up see my kids and hack away at my guitars.

John, you should also be happy you can play, and take the compliments in stride. If you don't like them, think of them as a necessary evil, a due you must pay for the privilege of playing. Remember, some people aren't blessed enough to be able to play in the first place. You guys are 100% correct. I am reading all the posts and learning something. I am such an ass sometimes. Tonights gig is gonna be fun. I may even have a beverage or 2.
I'm even gonna roll with the compliments if any of them come my way. The best part of tonights gig... ITS THE LAST TIME I WILL BE GIGGING WITHOUT A SOLDANO SLO100. I hope.
