Wow, when I used to do shipping I did it EXACTLY that way, no joke. I dunno man, after seeing all these guitars damaged in shipping, I took no chances whatsoever. But ya know man, as great as you may pack it, something will always happen out of the ordinary sometimes. I've only had 2 guitars break in 2 years of shipping, and those were overseas shipments, where even more people handle it.

That's true... and there's little you can do once it's out of your hands... but what you do while it IS in your hands can drastically cut down any problems! Sorry to see the UPS damage. UPS is quite notorious for throwing packages around without care. We don't use UPS unless its the only available shipping option left; ie: THE LAST RESORT!

Had several bad experiences with UPS:

1. They trashed a computer system ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS! And they were packed well, Claims dept. acted like the FBI and sent 2 doofus reps in person to follow up. It would have been comical if my stuff wasn't fucked up. Cross examined the customer when THEY are the ones who fucked up! Tooks 6 weeks to get paid, and was out a computer in the meantime.

2. They went through personal boxes and some items were missing (UPS workers apparently stole from, then resealed boxes) when shipping items cross country many years ago when relocating. Made them pay.

3 When mailing a package ground about a year ago, the clueless employee refused to accept my already filled out shipping form because they put in computer terminals so they could cut some of their employess from payroll. Said I was in a rush to make an appointment and did not wish to learn their "system". UPS rep declined to assist with this. I DON'T WORK FOR YOUR COMPANY SO I AIN'T DOING IT. Proceeded to mail package next day through FED EX GROUND.

Fed EX Ground is often CHEAPER than UPS Ground usually without the downside to using the shit brown service. Have used Fed Ex Ground without any problems thus far. You get the feeling that less bozos are in their organization as they seem to conduct themselves differently. No company is without fault, but Fed Ex has a vastly better track record and an overall better customer experience.

Regardless, its wise to go the extra mile with packaging regardless to decrease risk of breakage. I would still go Fed Ex Ground after the guitar is packed like freakin' fine china!

I myself prefer FedEx Ground as well, but as Newc mentioned earlier, there are bozos in every joint. The one making your phlegm-laden McDonald's burger today could be making your Wendy's burger tomorrow. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Anytime I've gotten a new J/C shipped, it just comes in the case, in a box, with a piece of bubble wrap on each end, I don't mean like, wrapped around it, I mean like, just a small piece laying there.

You think for a guitar that's over a god damn grand, they could take a little more care in the packing.

I think when shipping companies break guitars it's karma. Either you've made a mistake, and have to atone for it in this shitty way, or it's karmas way of throwing you a shitty bone, only for better things to come. (Not saying you did anything)

I had UPS destroy a guitar on it's way to me, only to latter get a better price on a better guitar. I ended up getting to keep the extra cash, and had a more pricey guitar.
