Re: FUKKIN UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't blame G&G for these problems. There is a better G&G caese available, the center pocket Form Fit:

THIS is the case these Charvel and Jackson strat shaped guitars should be in. The other case is fine for stratheads, not for pointies.

      Re: FUKKIN UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say that I'm amazed that guitars make it to me in one piece. I've gotten guitars from each of the forum dealers here, DCGL, GMW, Chuck Levin's, Musician's Friend, and many more and not one has arrived packed as well as it really should have been.

Sure, the apes at UPS, Fedex, etc. could handle things better but EVERYONE involved in the packing, shipping, and handling of these instruments knows they are going to get abused by the carrier.

Personally I think that everyone is just playing the odds that it will skate through which they do most of the time. I'm sure it is more cost effective to not bother with packing things better.

Really? Ruined by FedEx? What did the case look like? How was the guitar packed? If it was packed like every new Jackson or Charvel I've received in the mail then it wasn't packed very well at all.

Hippie that sucks and is not what you guys deserve from J/C. I would hope that you have made them aware of the fact that a great guitar can become firewood because they don't pack it right.

I really don't understand how you can lay down $2000 for a guitar and have no packing material in it. I've literally gotten Jackson and Charvel guitars in cases in a carboard box and no padding inside the case.

Can you say 'human error'? Time for an 'I-Team' investigation to go undercover to UPS distribution centers to see how packages are handled by these pinheads. That is simply deplorable and inexcusable. That hurts to look at Pat. Those MFers!

                    Re: FUKKIN UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the same thing that happens to all the SLATQH's in that same G&G case. I'm suprised Jackson/Charvel is still using that case on any guitar with an angled back headstock. The bottom of the tip of the headstock rests on the bottom of the case. the neck does not even rest in the neck cradle. That means the to points that make contact with the bottom of the case is the tip of the headstock and the butt of the body. All it takes is a little pressure or another package stacked on top of that case to make that head snap or crack.

Pat man, This sucks plain and simple. Having gone through this myself (not nearly as bad though), I feel for you. At least you have Matt on it for you. It's just too bad you have to go through this.

All you guys that got these green Charvels should check your guitars in the case. Make sure the tip of that headstock is not resting on the bottom of the case. If it is, I would not keep it in that case and risk any damage that may occur. I replaced all my SLATQH G&G cases with Jackson ABS form fitted cases. It's at least worth checking into.

                          Re: FUKKIN UPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think these came in the new G&G case designed for the angled headstock. There was a sticker on the plastic case wrap that said "Charvel Tilt" or something similar. The tip of the headstock sits about 1/2" off the floor of the case in mine. The problem is that nothing keeps the guitar from sliding forward & slamming the tip into the end of the case. A full-on form fit case or packing to snug up the body for shipping is a must, imo. These guitars are just too nice to have this kind of thing happen on the final leg!

Pat, it's painful to see that pic & I'm really sorry this happened. Matt's the best & will get it taken care of.

                            Very sorry Pat...

It's all about the packing, regardless of the type of case used. I LOVE the black plastic form-fitting SKB cases that my Jacksons have come in, because you don't NEED to pack extra materials inside the case to hold the guitar still. You can just put the whole case in a cardboard box and ship it, and I've had no problems with SKB cases. I know a lot of people prefer the quality and tradition of G&G, but they always seem like they don't provide any internal support... Remember all the SLATQHs with snapped headstocks?

My brother has two G&G-style bass cases. They offer no internal support, and WAAAAAAYYYYYY too much extra internal room. If he had to sell those basses, I'd tell him to stuff bubble wrap inside to fill up all that extra room to the point where the basses will NOT shift. I did this with my Ibanez RG560 that I sold last year to JCFer Paige, making complete sure that I padded the body, neck, and headstock inside the generic Strat case that came with the guitar. Otherwise, the tilt-back Ibanez headstock would surely have snapped...

My ESP/Edwards Les Paul Custom came to me from Japan shipped in a heavy-duty ESP gigbag. The guitar was surrounded by layers upon layers of bubble wrap to really hold it still, followed by the gigbag enclosing it, and then more and more layers of bubble wrap, and finally the exterior cardboard box. It arrived unscathed. I then bought a form-fitting TKL Les Paul case for it, and it fits snugly and beautifully.

My Taylor K14c came in the original Taylor form-fitting case and in a cardboard box. The FedEx delivery dude brought the guitar into my house UPSIDE DOWN and slammed the package down onto my ceramic floor!!!!!! But because the body and neck were held completely immobile by the awesome form-fit, and the headstock had plenty of extra room around it on all sides, my Taylor survived without a scratch.

Conclusion: Either get the appropriate form-fitting hardcase, or pack like hell if there is the hint of any room in the case. I'll never forget the link that Sully (if I recall correctly) gave me about a year and a half ago... it was packing instructions from the Moser Custom Shop Guitar Forum and MAN have I ever benefitted from that procedure. Now I follow that protocol whenever I pack anything from guitars to small items on Ebay.
