Re: UPS.. Note from a former employee.

I have friends that are ups drivers- These guys work 12-16hr days on delivery around here. I will get packages at 7-8 pm. Its wierd though I have never once had a problem. Sent amps, guitars, effects always cool-

So if you pay more than double to ship, padding the insurance like that, then they'll take care of your package like they should have in the first place? nice...

I agree with your comment 100%. The bottom line (They Don't Give A Shit!) However, I'm sure they are looking at this purely in a business sense. They can afford to pick up the tab for damaged items under $3000 all day long because the percentage is low compared to how much they ship. But when you get into the bigger ticket packages......that hurts the old bottom line. The major flaw in this system is those items that may not have the $ value but cannot be replaced. I would not want to work in customer service for a delivery company.

So far I had good luck with UPS, but I can see its just a matter of time. I know the delivery guy on my route and he does indeed put in 12+ hour days, When ever I ship a guitar I fill every void in the case with foam peanuts, wrap the case w/ bubble wrap, use another layer of foam between the case and box. so far not a scratch. a friend of mine sells a lot of stuff and he swears by the Postal Service, I just don't have that much faith in em

The other problem is that they completely own their insurance company, which almost always denies claims as a matter of course. I've read here of cases where the UPS Store packed the item and they still tried to deny the claims due to insufficient packing. Now I've used them to ship and seen them pack a standard amp head into a 24"x24"x36" box and pack that box with bubble wrap and foam peanuts, so they're not insufficiently packing. But their pet insurance company will try to deny the claim almost every time. Maybe they figure if your item's worth $3k in insurance, you can afford a lawyer too, and they decide to treat your package well.
