Lots of early '80s stuff like Joe Jackson, The Cars, Stray Cats, Thomas Dolby, The Human League, Yaz, Men at Work, Flock of Seagulls, UB-40, The Fixx, etc., etc., just puts me in a good mood & reminds me of worry-free times. I like "ABBA" and "Seefus" and all the old shit I couldn't listen to in the "70's and '80's due to a life crisis. The big problem is for all you new kids is the music, nowadays, just sucks. It is like rock talent just died. And that's dumb because all the rock and all the licks and all the music has been done before. I mean in the '30's thru the '50's. So why can't these new guys do what everyone else has done over the decades? Make old rock new. And, I have heard enough old metal and old rock. Maybe, it is just getting worn out. I was there on Day 1 of MTV, so even though I was all over Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, I dug the Buggles, Tubes, Wall Of Voodoo, Stray Cats, Pretenders, and all those pop rock bands.

Synth Pop did nothing for me. You cannot make good music without a guitar. It's impossible. Unless it's a Classical Symphony, in which case the sheer number of instruments makes up for the missing guitar.

Only rap song I ever liked was Rapper's Delight - You ever went over a friend's house to eat, and the food just ain't no good? I mean the macaroni's soggy, the peas are mushed, and the chicken taste like wood. So you try to play it off like you think you can by sayin that you're full, when your friend says "Momma, he's just being polite, he ain't finished uh-uh that's bull" [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

There was this one Funk song I had when I was a kid - Freaky People. I dunno who did it (haven't really looked it up), but it was funny. "I can tell by yo head, you been sleepin in Bernie's bed" [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Other than that, I can't think of anything most normal people (i.e. non-Metalheads) would consider "cheesy". I've listened to Big Band Swing, Blues, Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, Country, some Disco, Progressive Rock, Fusion, and Classical in equal amounts on an equal basis over the years.
I dunno how you'd classify Loreena McKennitt's cds, or that Spirit Flutes disc with the Native American flutes on it, but I dig those as well. Not too fond of mixing those with other styles though.
