• Johnny Cash appreciation thread

Some how this giant got mixed up in the cheesey music thread, while some of the stuff he did in the early times were pretty sappy, you gotta realize what was status quo for music then. "On a sunday morning sidewalk and I'm wishing I was stoned, cuz theres something bout a sunday, makes a body feel alone". (I think Kris wrote that, but johnny lived it) references to a breakfast beer also in that song, if this guy was 25 today he'd be a metal maniac. I am proud to list him as one of my musical heroes, You gotta love his attitude and passion and rebelious spirit. Johnny Cash was the C&W equivalent of Tony Iommi. Dark, brooding lyrics, and with Chet Atkins as his guitarist, how can anyone but the uneducated call it cheesy?

You kids wouldn't know what black was had Johnny not told you about it.

Johnny Cash should be made a saint for every Johnny-come-lately that tries to match his artistry.
I am a true ass set to this board.

"...and just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back, until things are better, I'm The Man in Black".
There would be no rock & roll rebelliousness if it weren't for Johnny Cash. If there was ever a man who stood his ground and didn't take shit from anyone, it was Johnny. I hope the new movie about him does him justice.

Don't get me wrong. I listen to JC all the time and don't think his music is cheesy one bit. I'm the cheesy one because I flip back and forth between pantera, ozzy, and Johnny Cash. My kids think I'm the cheesy one for playing "ring of fire". Posted it in that tread because I would think its not the "norm" of the board.

Lay me down and behead me know..........god bless Johnny Cash

I had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of different occasions. He was kind enough to autograph my arm so I could have it tattooed (even though June thought I was off my rocker ) There will never be another like him, I miss him everyday.

That's unreal Jeri

Johnny Cash was a huge part of my music education. My dad was a huge fan, along with Kris, Willie, Gram Parsons etc.
He knew how to write a song and deliver it home every time.
Him wearing black and the lifestyle etc was not an act like it is with a lot of supposed "hardcore" dudes that would shit themselves if Johnny raised his voice. It was him.
My dad always told me something that Johhny did and he did himself, be who you are and be proud of it, and NEVER EVER apoligize.
I'm not talking about proper or PC shit either, i'm talking about what is truly inside you that defines you and makes you different from every other person on this god forsaken rock.
We miss you brother....

My former drummer met him once, and he said he'd always wanted to sing Rock, but "they" (record suits) told him he didn't have the voice for it.
So how did Bob Dylan get past 'em?

Shows what the Suits knew about music.

I like Cash... need mroe exposure of his stuff though. Funny thing was that I discovered him by hearing Reverend Horton Heats version of Folsom Prison Blues. If you haven't heard that version, it is definately worth checking out. Cash had serious balls.
