Copying BC Rich guitars and selling them as real BCR's. Lying and saying he purchased BC Rich back in the day.

So what are Ed's crimes anyhow? Violating trademarks? Overcharging? What?

[/ QUOTE ]

That's basically it. That, fraud, and him not being the easiest person to deal with.

Ok, so basically doing what a variety of these companies did at one time or another: Charvel, Jackson, Ibanez, GMW, Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, Music 123, etc.

Have you bought from him before, Tim? How was your experience?

I've only heard that on the JCF. Can you elaborate?

I ordered some LSR tuners from them last Friday. The prices were very good, the dude on the phone was very helpful, and they're the only place I could find that even had LSR tuners in stock. I called yesterday for a tracking number and the tuners should be here tomorrow.

I've spoken with Ed on the phone before and he's definitely kind of arrogant. But that is far from unusual when dealing with music stores.

I don't ever remember those companies intentionally copying another co's product and putting the name of the original co on the product ..

Ed supposedly bought out BCR old stock but never ever seems to run out of NOS bodies and such ...

Then there is the issue of how he deals with people. In a very nasty manner. When that was called out on the JCF by someone and a thread took off Ed demanded AMIC shut us down ..

Re: Ed Roman Site Down

Ed is a nice guy. I dealt with him personally on many occassions when he owned East Coast Music Mall. He bailed me out many times with great advise and service. Yea, if you were a 16 year old just coming to his store after smoking some pot and wanting to try out the $3000.00 guitars hanging on the walls he would be a prick. I never had any problems with him and I used to travel out of my way just to do business there. I think that most of the Ed Roman bashing is an internet witch hunt and most of the accusations are untrue.

Ok. I bought a Jackson SL2H RGF from Ed in 2002 and had no problems with him. I made it clear that I was buying from whomever had one in stock, at the right price, immediately - no dickin around. He was friendly enough with me and delivered the guitar in four days and gave me one hell of a deal.
I have heard the horror stories from others and was just curious what you went through. I have no opinion on the stories of him faking and such.

Hmm...if you were in his position (being slandered on a very public forum) what would you have done?

I'm not here to defend Ed Roman or be his advocate - I just want to hear some real facts about what he really has done that is so bad relative to the rest of the industry.

I've read a few with facts.

Though I've noticed something about you Tim, as long as you weren't spurned personally you usually give a dealer a chance no matter how bad the reputation is.

Please, nobody take that as a knock on Tim, he seems to have a bit more faith in people. Whereas, one negative report and the rest of us avoid the dealer like the plague.

I assume you are referring to my purchases from Kevin Easton. Kevin has always treated me good - as good as any other dealer including our JCF sponsors (that's not a knock guys - I still love you). You also have to remember that it was like 2 or 3 guys that had problems at that point. Certainly not enough to codemn him in my book given how well he had hooked me up in the past. And one was someone trying to get money back because *he* backed out of a commitment. Also, the two things I got from Kevin during the dark times were one of a kind. In fact, I couldn't possibly order a Disrupter if I wanted to. Although I suspect I could get Mr. Roman to build me one

Plenty of dealers have shit on me but I don't expect any of you to stop shopping with them because of my bad experience. I'll share that experience with others but that's about it.

He tried to tell me he could get me $7000 for my Ibanez Jem Blue Floral Pettern 6 String from a collector he suposedly knew. So I called back and said OK lets do it.

Then came the line of B.S. Never called there again - little freakin' Lepracon.
