      Tim,

I have first hand knowledge in the 90s Ed was building Charvels and selling them as legit guitars. You would always know because they would never ever carry a plate. I'm also aware during that time period that the custom shop was watching him like a hawk ad wanted to catch him.

The BC Rich rumors are true, I also have first hand knowledge of that. The problem is 2 fold with Ed. He was a good dealer for a lot of these people but he was also doing things that weren't morally correct. Without hard proof these companies could never do anything to him...

Ed in fact bought a bunch of BCR overstock but claims he's never sold all of it. He seems to have a never ending supply very similar to a company who sells stratheads and was told to stop ...

this is closer to being substantial. although, if he's passing off fraudulent guitars how could it possibly be difficult to catch him? particularly charvel. it seems like it'd be piece of cake to bust him. just get a bunch of people to buy fraudulent guitars.

        i agree this is slimey.

but look at charvel, jackson, gmw, etc. - it's pretty hard for them to take the moral high ground when they knowingly made guitars they weren't allowed to. it's just a matter of who is getting harmed, right? and to those of you (including me) that bought those guitars, a good percentage of you knew you were buying a guitar that you were not supposed to be able to buy (we have lots of pics with cut off headstocks to prove that).

bottom line for me is that seeing a post like yours provides a bit of meaningful insight, but 99% of the "ed roman sucks" posts have been nothing but unsubstantiated crap.

I liked that old movie with Jennifer Aniston that also featured Ed Roman. He was good in that role.

For the sake of breaking it down ..

If you buy a charvel with a strathead even though Fender owned the trademark you knew you were getting a CHARVEL

If you bought one in the manner mentioned above you would be buying a Charvel that infringed in Fender that was built by Ed........................................

                Re: Ed Roman Site Down

Okay, I bought an Ibanez RG7620 from him around 1998 or so. I ordered it and made a deposit, then paid the balance when it arrived C.O.D. from UPS. As part of the deal, I was guaranteed a matching Ibanez original hardshell case. The guitar arrived in a fairly nice quality, but non-original no brand hardshell case. I called him and his excuse was that there was no way he could afford to provide a real Ibanez case as he would lose money at our agreed price. I argued with him for a few minutes, but finally gave up.

Looking back, I was young and gave up too easily. Today I would absolutely demand the correct case on the grounds that he promised an Ibanez case and I don't give a rat's butt whether he makes money or not as that's no concern of mine because it's his duty to price items that give him the margin he wants.

The RG7620 was a nice guitar and this wasn't THAT big of a deal, but none the less I will never buy anything from him again because I don't trust him based on my one experience.

I remember you used to be able to Google "Ed Roman Ripoff" or Ed Roman Thief" and get tons of hits from forums with plenty or horror stories. It's strange how all those sites no longer hanve those posts.

Without making and accusations or naming names, it's one thing to copy a Manufacturer's design, it's something completely different to take an import $150 guitar, slap a different logo on it and paint and sell it as a $1700 USA Hand Made guitar.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Ed still has a ton of that BC Rich inventory left. He had 100's and 100's of bodies. We tried several times to score something from him cheap that was sitting on the floor for months but he wanted top dollar for all of his BC Rich stuff.

                            Re: Ed Roman Site Down

Ed did have a lot of body blanks that he got from Class Axe.

He also built guitars and put the R logo on them and sold them as original BCRs. There's people on the MCS forum that saw Ed making fake guitars in person.

A few months ago, Ed had 2 guitars on his body blanks page. They were a red archtop BC Rich Bich and a gold archtop BC Rich Warlock. They were painted and clearcoated. HOWEVER. They didn't have the control holes drilled. Only pilot holes. Tim Keyes, the custom shop manager from BC Rich was asked on the MCS board about the 2 guitars. Tim said they were legit. He said BCR had sent him those 2 guitars. Then someone asked if BCR sent Ed INCOMPLETE guitas. Tim then looked at the pics. He didn't see them the first time he answered the question. He said BCR NEVER sends out unfinished guitars. Then his reply was something like, hmmm the plot thickens (this was after he looked at the pics) The next day, the guitars were gone from Ed's site. Also, on the BCR board, BCR wouldn't bash Ed and only would say Ed is a dealer of theirs in good standing.

Now on Ed's site there's a page where he says he bought BCR back in the day and supposedly bought the "license" to use the BCR name. Uh, sure Ed. Probably his convenient way of explaining his forgeries. On ebay a few months ago there was a Bich at Guitar Center. It had some odd-ness to it. On the back of the headstock was the World Class Guitars logo.

BC Rich is suing Neal Moser and MCS for making some Bich's. I have a feeling BCR put pressure on Ed to finally stop, that's why he put up his page "explaining" his BCRs. Now his site is down so who knows if the page will be back up.

There's more people on the MCS board that have knowledge of Ed's forgeries.

As far as being racist, I called him about a Jackson SL4 once. He said it didn't exist. I said it's a Japanese model. He IMMEDITATELY started screaming abotu "fucking Japs, fucking Jap pieces of shit, I don't sell no Jap shit, but a fucking USA made guitar, not Jap shit", etc. He was yelling and ranting.

Ed doesnt hide anything. He once offered on his website clones of other guitars, including the logo. This included signature models, with forges signatures. He didnt think anything was wrong with that, and even insisted that his clones were superior in everyway to the original...............
