So in that thought, if you actually listened to your mothers advice, how or in what way would you be different? It doesn't have to be occupation, just whatever, in general......

Hope things go better for you, Dave. Sounds like you're done with work for the day so hopefully you can relax...

Anyway, I actually listened to my mother's advice. Her advice was "Whenever you do something, do it the best you can; no matter how insignificant of a task it may seem."

As a result of that, I am a detail-oriented person, and have a hard time coping with things if the end result isn't perfect.

My employer loves me for striving for such perfection, but I end up putting a lot of undue stress on myself about things.

Damn,that's what I keep askin myself in this period.I'm not sure about my life also if I acted always rationally. I have a good job but I don't like it.I left my band and I dunno what I'll do.The answer is: don't ask just live. [img]/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif[/img]

if i listened to my mother ,i would have come home after being missing in action for a couple of days. as for a career, it would be too hard to undertand her answer due to her rolling on the floor laughing like there's no tomorrow.
my mom after walking in the house returning from a nice dinner out with dad- "what's that smell George?, oh thank heavens!! it's only marijuana!!! "

We've both shared a bit about where we've come from...let's just say I'm glad I didn't follow my mother's lead [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] In fact, it's a blessing and a miracle I have what I have today.

Hell I wished my parents would have offered some or any advice when I was younger. They seem to be overflowing with it now that I am an adult, but they really didnt parent me when I was growing up. When I was growing up I thought I had it so awesome, as long as I didnt go to jail all was good. Living up to my own expectations of myself is hard, I guess I am somewhat lucky that I dont have to live up to their's.

Hmmm... If I listened to my mother, I would have 5 kids, be dead broke and living on welfare in some HUD funded slum.
Instead, I have a beautiful daughter, a great wife, have two cars (of which one is paid for), own my own house and make pretty damn close to a six figure income.

Few Kev, very very few. Most jobs are just pure drudgery, if you find that you enjoy your job even a small fraction of the time count yourself among the lucky few.

My folks gave me very little career advice. Dad came home following WWII and started working with his father & brother in the family business and if he hadn't married my mom he'd probably have been content to live the rest of his life without leaving the county in which he lives. Mom taught HS until I was born then retired. As for actual advice it went something along the lines of, "If you're going to go to college get a degree that'll actually help you earn a living. Whatever you do, don't try to make a living as a musician." [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
