• Fed X is Weird

So I ship something to Sully, It goes from Seattle, To MEMPHIS, Than To Dallas, then to Plano

I ship something to Vancover Canada, It goes from Seattle, To OAKLAND, to spokane, than to Vancover

Seems like a Giant wast of Fuel to me

Well, if they were just shipping "your" package, it would be a waste. But, it is assimilated in with many other packages that are going every which way, and that is probably the quickest or easiest way for them to do it. Sure does seem odd though, I know.

You mean there aren't any FedEx MD-11s that carry 1 package that fly direct from Seattle to Plano, Tx.. Dam you learn something new everyday.

It's not like Texas is a small state. I'd expect it going to dallas 1st than plano, but Memphis is kinda not near there. Then I hate the canada thing, There's no reason my package should have to go to oakland, to get to BC, BC is 3 hours away from me

It's called the Hub System. For instance I grew up in El Paso Texas, If I flew American Airlines from EP to L.A., I would go from El Paso to Dallas(600 miles the wrong way) Dallas to L.A..Does it make sense to me no, but in the grand scheme of cost it works for them, but that was before Southwest, was big.

Fed Ex has two dist/processing centers.
One in Oakland and the original one in Memphis.
All of their shipments get sent to either one for processing and sorting. The only excpetion is ground shipments.
It may seem inefficient on a small scale, but when you ship millions of packages a day, it makes perfect sense.

Yeah, that's what UPS told me, too, as I've noticed the same thing with them at certain times. I'm in central NJ. Most of the time, packages I get come to the UPS facility that's within 20 minutes north of my house, then they go out for delivery straight from there. Other times, they go into one of the facilities that's close to an hour north, then they come down and go south past my house about an hour, then come back up for delivery. I still can't quite grasp that concept.

I luckily live in a good hub-centric (haha!... or not...) location. Theres a huge UPS hub about 5 miles away, I think everything in the Philadelphia region goes straight there. Im luckily, I usually get my stuff extremely quick.

Then on the other hand, USPS BLOWS. The slowest service available, with the most useless tracking system in existance.
Imagine, being able to be magically whisked away to... Delaware. Hi... Im in... Delaware...

I fly out of Memphis from time to time, Fed Ex might as well own that airport, the number of planes they fly in and out of there is unreal.

More items shipped via Fed Ex are lost, stolen, etc., than any other shipper in the world. That right there tells me to stay away from them. The whole problem is that all of their drivers are hired "contract workers", and are not actually Fed Ex employees. So they don't really give a flying rats ass whether you get your stuff or not. UPS Rules!!

yep, not to mention that the last two times I have bought a guitar, they leave it on the steps out front of my house.

You have tom request signature service with Fedex, and I have to say I haven't lost anything with them yet. They also are typically a day or so faster than UPS when shipping
more than 500 miles. And UPS, of course, has a horrible record for breaking guitars. Of all the broken guitars I've seen pictured here, I think ALL of them were UPS - who also own their own insurance company that always denies your claim at first.

Of course, Fedex won't insure a 20-year-old guitar for more than $500, so that sucks too. Basically you pick the shipper whose policies suck least depending on your needs and go with that.
