RIP. One of the first to purposely use distortion as a part of his tone...he actually cut slits in his speaker cones. A true original indeed.

I never liked surf guitar, but I understand how he helped pave the way for so many others and for that I thank him! RIP

                          Re: Link Wray dies

Link was not only an original but a super great guy. My band in the 80's was booked with him a few times in the 80's and the night would always end in a righteously raunchy jam. Surf music ????? If ever there was a father of metal or at least anything loud and distorted Link Wray was it. Cut his speakers with razor blades for more distortion years before the Kinks on You Really Got Me. You younger guys should really check him out. There is a CD with like 25 of his original singles and they rock to this day and into eternity. RIP.

I was way into Link a couple years back and kept saying to myself that I needed to see him in concert while he was still alive as I knew he was getting up in years. Unfortunately I never did get that accomplished. R.I.P., Link, you've inspired me a lot, bro.
