• Talk to me about drums, teach me oh wise ones :D

And don't say stick with guitar! LOL I know there are a couple drummers around here I need your input. I'm thinking about selling off the rest of my stuff to snag a drumset. I'm not sure what decent low priced kits are out there though. So far the Sonor Force 3000's have caught my attention. Also what seems to be a new brand RMV from Brazil distributed by LP. Both of these come with decent looking hardware but no cymbals. I'd like to find a kit that has everything but I'll be on a budget so I think that's going to be difficult. Unless I get one of those $429 for everything kits. I can imagine those are a compromise all the way around
Thanks!

our drummer plays an old tama kit that you could probably find a used one similar for under 500.oo...basically, like guitar, you need to go out to your local music stores, see what's there, and what you like the sound of...that'll put you a lot closer than listening to advice from a bunch of...guitar players...lol...d.m.

Bad pic but here is my Silver Sparkle 1968 Ludwig kit. I've never been able to play anything else, these are the loudest mother fuckers out there. I've played since I was 3, I've had this kit since I was 7. I'll try to take better pics tomorrow.

As far as getting a used kit, There's always tons of Tama stuff out there. I hate pearl stuff, always sounds like ass to me.

I have a Tama 5pc. Superstar kit. The quality is excellent and the hardware is top notch. Keep in mind quality cymbals will cost as much, if not more than the actual drumset. I'm using Sabian XS20 cymbals, they sound great and weren't too expensive.

Tama Superstar, or even Rockstars (middle of the road)
Best bang for the buck IMO

I've been using TAMAs for 15 years...never had a bad kit out of a dozen or so that I've owned.

I agree with Donnie though...I too, had an early 80's Ludwig kit that was fucking louder than God!

I would buy DW's Paficic instead of Tama's superstar, it costs a little more but it's made of full wood not veneer and they sound better.

I have a set of Black Tama Rockstar's. It's a real nice Kit. I got it as a 5 Piece and aded a Pearl Floor Tom and got rid of the crashes that came with it. I would stay away from those $429 complete kits and look around some of your local music shops and also look in the paper. Drums are tuff to ship so a lot of people will opt out to sell locally for a bit cheaper.

Agree with that as well....if you want to spend a little extra bread (not too much) then try some DW Pacifics. I've noodled on a couple of Pacific sets, and like the overall tone and projection.

Which level of Pacific are we talking about? I'm looking at the website and they have several.

hmmm I'm not really familiar with all their models, I guess they have some finish, material differences but I'm pretty sure they all are pretty much the same. You can go with the cheapest ones, they all are made of full wood wich is a very good thing. Tama's are good because they have by far the best hardware, DW's wood is better.

Zildijan's cheaper series cymballs are the biggest shit, they don't follow any cymball making "rules" each cymbal sounds totally different than the other. Custom A or Custom K series are another thing, they kick ass, but those ZBTs or whatever are crap. Cheaper Sabians or Paistes are way better. I could recommend Paiste because it's Estonian

Ludwig's are great vintage sounding drums, excellent for classic rock, blues and jazz. They are loud and very bassy.
Tama's are very universal but they don't really impress me that much.
I love high end DWs, Pearls and Mapex. DW's woodwork is outstanding and they make drums with huge raidus, Pearls make great racks, Mapex does excellent shells.
