Re: *sigh* computer woes, saga continues

Yes, that will work. Copy Win2k installation onto that drive. Put it back in the Gateway. Boot the Gateway from the floppy. Navigate to where you copied the Win2k installation. Run setup.exe.

Also, make sure the jumpers are set correctly on that hard drive....master vs. slave. vs. cable select. If you don't know the difference, just post again.

edit: if that drive is formatted ntfs, i hope xp doesn't do a silent upgrade to it while you mounted it on your good computer. that might be a problem. but i'm not sure. do you know how the drive was formatted? fat32 is the safest for this situation.

It is in Fat 32. I just ran a scan disk an checked the drive...appears there is registry files on it still?
It says 18.6 gb but 16,384 kb of files or used space?

I'll run it as master drive in the Gateway..it was on cable select, but its set to slave at the moment. It doesn't seem to have any auto update issues.

There's always some "reserved" space like that for the actual files on the disc Windows needs to communicate with the drive.

ahh, so it doesn't have an OS, but the virus detect did read some files so I was wondering. I'm learning, thanks!
