Are they all spayed or neutered? An unfixed cat will mark his territory. Also they'll do it if YOU'VE done something to piss THEM off. Kinda like people in that regard. Have you changed their routine in any way?

I know, they're pets, but if someone messes with your routine, you get pissed off too.

Besides that, one could have a urinary tract or bladder infection and be losing control. Maybe a trip to the vet instead of the SPCA is in order.

If this is a new thing and not an old habit, I'd figure something's wrong causing the behavior. Cats can't say, "Dude, my bladder hurts", ya know?

Well, there is a difference between a cat spraying, and a cat pissing. Spraying is usually on vertical sufaces, and pissing, is well, in your hamper, your amp, case, et cetera.


Spraying usually means, they are not fixred, and there is an un-fixed female around (oh, and females spray too). However, even after they are fixed, if urination is a problem, it could be another problem. A UTI, cats, like people, like to be healthy, and if there is something wrong, they communicate in a way they know how to. Throw up infront of you (well other than when they eat too fast) or pee somewhere, meow much, shit somewhere, et cetera.


Your cats may also be telling you something, that the box isn't clean enough. Ever been to a rest stop, and seen a toilet with piss on the seat, shit in the bowl, and who knows what shot on the wall? Would you use it? Hell no, and your cat doesn't want a dump festering pot as well. Each animal is different, on how much waste they let in a box. Some cats want it scooped twice a day. Our cats are happy with every night or 2.

Sucks he peed on a friends thing, because, you're kind of obligated to replace it.

Cats love pissing on plastic shit. Nylon luggage, gig bags, plastic bags, platic tubs, anything plastic. Maybe it's because of the smell of the litter box plastic, I don't know, but you are not alone.

I'm w/ Rich & Deneb on this. There's a good possiblity that it's a bladder or kidney infection or litter box issues. The clumping cat litter is the way to go & makes it easy to keep the box less nasty. Our vet recommended having one more box than the number of cats, which has worked really well for us. Our oldest cat is pushing 20, & has started having the occasional accident. It can drive you crazy, I know!

I've got a couple of 17 year old cats who started pissing in the hallway, but once I got a litter tray, it's been ok (ish). Shouting at them & kicking them won't work - that just ends up with finding shit in your shoes when you go to put them on in the morning (unless you've left your headphones on the floor - remember Fat Freddy's Cat?). Wife got 2 cats, one of them I call 'Dog Food' which pisses her off [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] and the other one is a kitten that likes to play. Problem is when she scratches my hand or bites it, about 1/2 hour later my hand looks like one of them foam hands you bring to a football game. [img]/images/graemlins/sick.gif[/img]

Oh, yeah, and a little thing called oxygen. [img]/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif[/img] Since I'm allergic to them, the lungs have a hard time functioning.
