I posted the thread with the Saab Precision Drivers and got to thinking to myself. Certain things I do better than most...but, haven't been able to get to the point of being "Damn good".
Please, keep in mind, I am not bragging about this....I am just wondering, what keeps myself and other people like me from hitting that pinnacle. I know almost every person on this forum has experienced this.
Some examples:
Driving: Some people say they can "drive". But, I mean really drive. I can get behind the wheel of the car and hold my own. Especially on a dirt track. Not that I am a super driver, but, I can "feel" what the car can and can't do pretty easily. Its like the car and I are one. Where I grew up has a dirt track called the K-C Raceway. It was common for people to call me up and want me to drive because their driver was sick, out of town, family related issues, etc. No, I didn't go out and kick everyone's ass...but, I don't remember a time I didn't make it to the final race and finish 10th or higher ( 3rd being my best ). Alas, I could never get over that hill so to speak.
Pool: Love the game. Been playing it as long as I can remember. Played on a pro-am level. A friend of mine I spent alot of time with on the road is on ESPN quite often ( Corey Duell ). He always said that something would "click" one day and I would be shooting pro. Nothing ever "clicked". I couldn't get past that barrier.
Bowling: I can go to almost any lane that is decent and carry an average anywhere form 200-210. I have bowled since I was 5 or 6. I have held that average long enough to turn pro. However, that average just isnt good enough. I would need to toss in a another strike or string a few more together. I just can't get over that "hump" to do so.
I am just trying to figure out what keeps people from achieving that higher level. Is it mentallity? Fate? Luck?
Anyone have any input on this?-Lou
