• Well this was interesting

So I was helping a buddy of mine move today. We were in the basement going though mountains of stuff (literally- he's somewhat of a pack rat) when I noticed a guitar case sticking out from under a pile of stuff. I asked him who the guitar belonged to and he had no idea, nor did he have any idea if there was even anything in the case. So I pulled the case out and there was a pretty nice Korean-made Charvel acoustic in there! I was aware that Charvel at one point made acoustics but I'd never seen one. I asked him who it belonged to and he suspected it might be his wife's, though he'd never seen her play it, nor did he have any awareness of her playing guitar at all. I have no idea how old the guitar is, but the stings were ancient. Had nice abalone inlays, including the Charvel logo. Anyway, I told him to tell his wife that I was going to bring it home and spruce it up, and if she wanted me to make her an offer I'd be interested. He called her and she said she'd "permanantly loan" it to me. So I brought it home, restrung it, cleaned the fingerboard and gave it a quick polish. It actually plays extremely well, excellent action and a very comfortable neck. I really like it.

    Anyway, here she is-

If anyone has any info on these guitars I'd love to hear it. I was pretty excited when I opened the case and saw the logo.

People really can be nice. And so is the guitar. Just looked closer. That is a Real nice guitar. Find an average price and bunp it 20% if you want it.

Thanks- the more I play it the more I like it. Very fast neck, pretty thin for an acoustic. Very nice sound- I don't have any batteries so I can't plug it in yet.

Here's another pic- I'll try and get better ones tomorrow outside.

I'm definitely going to try, I just don't know how she got it to begin with. Might have been a gift from someone or something. I'm hoping it was an old boyfriend's and she'll just give it to me. They've been married and in that house for three years and my buddy had never seen it before.

It's something like the 625C or 625D, I believe. From what I hear, those were pretty nice guitars. Nice score you got there.

Mr Poon, you fuckin lucked out, those 625c's are great guitars. here's mine. same vintage as yours, just different color. this guitar sounds way better than it should for the price. and they are beautifully made.

the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

I haven't lucked out just yet, we'll see if she'll permanantly part with it. Can anyone tell what year mine is from the serial number? Anything close?

                          Re: Well this was interesting

the serial #'s don't help, kinda like on the Model series. mine is 0073900. but it's exactly the same production as that one, just the color is different. they also made these with regular (non-flamenco) fretboard, and in natural tops. there is a 12-string version of this same guitar, and an acoustic (not a/e) model.

that black one is a '94 model like mine. they made them up to '97 IIRC, but my understanding is the later ones were not made as well and they had a different control pod on the body (better controls, easier access to the battery, but not as magic of construction/playability apparently).

I love mine, I play it all the time. just played it tonight. out of all my guitars its the one I play most (good for late night low volume jams when wife and kids have already gone to sleep).

I'd vote for just taking it on that "permanent loan" and hoping it's forgotten about...
