  • Advice on a kids guitar

My five year old son wants an electric guitar for xmas. Any recommendations on scale size and overall length would be appreciated. He is 48" tall. Thanks.

Well, they used to make several childrens strats through Fender. I wouldn't spend a whole lot, but, get one decent enough that the strings aren't a mile high and impossible to push down on. I bought my son one of those el-cheapy acoustics from Wally World.....poor little guy couldnt even push the strings down.....hell, I could hardly push the strings down the action was so high when it was tuned properly. Spent a little more and got him something of a little higher quality. He loves it.....he still likes golf better though. -Lou

Peavey T-15s are great for kids, good solid US made, I think its a 23.5 inch scale, 2 P-90 (super ferrite) style pups, fixed bridge, about 75-100 bucks on ebay
I say the boy ain't right!

GC has a Fender Squier Strat (comes in black or red) that is 3/4 size. I checked one out for a friend who was getting his 11 year old daughter her 1st electric. Was pretty decent for < $100. Neck was straight...didn't fret out. Action wasn't bad.

GC also has 1/2 size Epis. A flying V and a LP style. Same price range. This might be better for your 5 year old.

If you want to splurge on something that both your son and yourself will enjoy, check out that Fender G-DEC combo. Imagine a Roland Cube with a really cool band-in-a-box feature.

That is the exact guitar I am thinking about. How old is your son or daughter and what is the quality of that guitar
like? My son is pretty big for his age and I want to get him something he could have for awhile. Thanks.
